My swirl finders have all died :( Do any of you use this machine to find defects? Any other suggestions?

3M gun is made for paint matching, not really aimed for swirl finding. Meaning that a brinkman performs 95% as good as this to see swirls. Also the battery life in these suck. Maybe 10-15 minutes until you need to charge again. And the bulb is expensive and has a short life.

There's a diy for sun guns. I'm actually about to try it myself since my brinkmann no longer works.

Yet more evidence that, to make your own Sun Gun:
Is the way to go...Especially if it's AC operated!!

And even though it's designed for color-matching...
I beg to differ on the Sun Gun's ability in finding swirls.

That sucks considering the price tag.

How well does it work for you? Can it be used as a primary swirl finder?

I know what you are saying Bob. I just find for swirl finding it isn't 10x better than a brinkman.

Make your own!

-I never said that a Sun Gun was 10X better than a Brinkman for swirl finding.

-And you have overlooked the fact that: I did make my own "Sun Gun".
And...At a nominal cost!!

My DIY-er works GREAT as a swirl-finder!!

What not just get the Marine Dual Brinkman or a Fenix TK 11? Can't beat either for swirl finding.

the marine one was out of stock in 2 of the places I looked, never heard of the other. I was not sure about posting the links I had due to the AUP. FUNx took care of that for me. I went to a big pawn shop lookning for cheap 12v drils,, they were on crack thinking Idd pay 20 bucks for a unit with no charger. The lady said we have this one for 30. I said is it new? No. Well no offence but I can buy a new one for 40. I would rather pay the 10 extra bucks and have a new battery and drill. thanks but no thanks.

So the search is still on.

I use a fenix TK35, TK40, and TK45. I use the tk35 the most during correction. :-)
I also have a few of their "pocket" lights. The PD32 is what I usually have in my pocket since it works perfectly for mobile inspections.

Oh crap, did I just out myself as a flashlight freak??? I guess I'll refrain from talking about my surefire, terralux, and nitecore lights then!
