I'm about to try my first hand with the 3M Trizact discs. I am going to fix a friends headlights. I have hand wet sanded and restored headlights before but I know the trizacts will yield better results if used correctly.

I will be using the 3" discs on my DA with and 3" 3M backing plate. My main question is what speed should I be running the sanding disks.
 
If it was me I would find a scrap piece of plastic and play with it until I see what works.
 
Agreed I have an old set of headlights I plan to use but i would like to get a recommended speed.
 
You can/should use a low speed with the sanding. I think I usually use 2 or 3 on my GG 3", so I wouldn't go more than that with a larger machine.
 
I also go slow and use an interface pad.
Going slow helps keep the disc wet longer
 
Getting ready to order the 3 inch 1000 grit pads. The $50 price for 15 is a little hard to swallow, don't know why these are so expensive.
 
Min speed 2, Max speed 3. +1 on using an interface. 800 grit and below without an interface will take much longer to refine with 1000 grit. The body shop I currently work for uses 3M trizact discs in 3000 and 5000 grit. They last quite a while IME. I use Meg sanding discs atm for personal use and they do okay. Not too impressed with them but they get the job done.
