4" Foam Pad Ok on 3" Backing Plate?

Hi, I was wondering if it were possible to use a regular 4" Lake Country foam pad with the Meguiars DA Power System? They are not tapered like the Meguiars pads so there will be some overlap with the 3" mounting plate. Will this affect the pads function? If that's the case I'll just get the 3" pads.

I'm getting the GG6 but will keep the DA system for quick spot repairs and tight areas.
