I called AG today about the new sale. I want to buy a UDM. The chap I spoke with said I should not use a 3.5" backing plate and 4" pads on the UDM, that the manufacturer did not recommend it. I got off the phone questioning him in my mind. I did some digging and actually read the UDM owners manual online. It says that the 3.5" is fine but recommends against anything higher than 7". Has anyone tried the 3.5" and also are the backing plates interchangeable with a rotary? Will this product from AG PC section work on the UDM? The Flexible Backing Plate LC-43-085DA measures 3.5 Inches in Diameter and is perfect for our 4" Spot Buff Pads. I would want to use it on occasion with my rotary as well.

I went to the UDM/Ultima Extravaganza and David (maker of UDM) used a 4 inch pad with the UDM :p so I doubt it would be a problem since he's done it. The only thing you can't do is use the Edge 2000 pads and you also can't use a backing plate bigger than 5".

Yes...DavidB did a demo using a 4" pad to remove scratches and it worked fine....even stated that it was the less vibration of the pad combos ..meaning from 4" to 6.5 inch pads...also stated to keep your speed lower as it does heat paint and correct fast....
