I am getting ready to order a set of 4 in pads for fathers day. I also need a backing plate. There are two options on the bp. One is the 3.5 one piece. The other is a 2 3/4 in which requres an adapter to mount on the pc. Which one do you folks recommend? I also need suggestions on a good finishing polish. Thanks for any suggestions.

I would get the 3.5 bp. Be sure that the 4" pads have the velcro backing all the way to the edge of the pad or the edges of the pad will collapse and may start to fray from the pressure of the bp. You need a finishing polish, do you have a correction polish. If not, I would get Menz 106FF or SIP for correction and PO85rd for final polish.

I have Poorboys SSR 1.0 and 2.5. I saw a recent post about the 4 in pads being torn up on the 3.5 bp. I believe the new ccs pads have velcro to the edge. At least a pic posted by one of the Autogeek moderators showed full velcro backing. There is a kit for sale here that has 2 whites 2 orange 1 blue and a gray. The kit also includes the the 2 3/4 bp and fittings for a DA or drill for $49.99. Just not sure about the bp size.

Sounds like the kit is the way to go. Why would you need an adapter for the DA?

The 2 3/4 in bp has female threads so you have to use an adapter to fit either a drill or the pc. I guess they are trying to make the smaller pad more versatile. Here is a pic from the kit.

The 3.5 is the bp that I have. It has a male stud, so no need for an adapter. I would not get the 23/4 bp, too much of the pad would have no support. You would have 5/8" with no support. If you need to apply pressure the bp would be cutting into the pad. If you need the bp for a drill then get it.The 2 3/4 in bp has female threads so you have to use an adapter to fit either a drill or the pc. That is what I was worrying about. I felt like I should go with the 3.5 bp, but wanted opinions from the pros. I don't thing I will ever have a need for a drill adapter. So you feel the PO85rd is the polish to get in addition to the SSR 1.0? Thanks again for all your help.

The 85rd is a finishing polish, not much bite. I would get menz 106ff as it will correct light swrils and scratches and will finish down lsp ready when using a grey, blue, or red pad. Use the white pad with 106 and burnish the paint with the grey pad.
