anyone heard of 5 star shine? saw this on the internet, supposed to be really long lasting chemical bond. also, whats a good wax for help last thru the winter months?

Depends on who you ask. Some say thier 5 year marketing pitch is a load of BS. A poster over on Autopia said it is a good sealant long lasting sealant (not 5 years though) but no where near worth what places are charging for it.

comes up here every year or so ... consensous is to save your money and grab the paint sealant of your choice. No one miracle product.

Molarman,

That product is what originally brought me to this Forum close to two years ago in an attempt to learn how to "prep" my paint in order to apply the 5 Star. I did know enough to realize that my slightly neglected paint needed some proper cleaning and correction in order to apply any polish with good results. Anyway, the 5 Star is expensive (I got it with a $20-off coupon) and, in my opinion, no great shake.

I would use one of the Collinite or Duragloss Products for a lot less money, ease of application and probably equal durability. As always - surface prep will determine how your "polish"/sealant looks or lasts. Any product enduring 5 years in Chicago is just not going to happen.

I can honestly say that 5starshine, or PPS as it´s real name is, will out perform all the boutique sealants. Or at least all I have tried: ultima, optiseal, zaino z2-5, klasse, fmj, collinite, jetseal and etc.

Will it last 5 years? No. Wil it lasts +12 months in norhern Scandinavia? With out a doubt.

This producut is not for us enthusiast but for the customers who wants to pay a extra money for a much more durable lsp.

2 questions

1. Didn't Glenn Canady start 5-Star Shine? (At least the brand, maybe not the product)

2. Is Glenn Canady still a part of the organization?

I noticed his website is no longer available?

I bought his book and he definitely was a push behind everyone trying to get as many reciprocal links as possible to increase their page ranking.

Porta,

Given your comments and obvious experience I may have to re-consider my comments. At the time I used the 5 Star I was doing all prep work by hand - which is obviously not the best approach. (Mike is the "man".) I still have some 5 Star as well as some of their compounding materials (I think) so I may give them another shot with my new Griot machine. We'll see. Certainly they had something (if not everything) to do with the Aquagard (Aquapel) windshield treatment and I think that is unquestionably the "product of the year" and quite possibly product of the last couple of years. They are also coming out with a "nano" version of the above that should last 12 months and I believe it will. I talked to their Canadian sales/product guy 2 years ago by phone and was very impressed with their "X-Coat" wipe on wipe off "paint correction" material also although this is probably more applicable for the professional detailer/car dealer as the minimum order was $250 or so - plenty for several cars but a bit much for the "home" enthusiast. Huge correction ability for a WOWO product. (One has to wear gloves and take some "chemical" precautions but beats a re-paint by a mile.)

In any case, I believe they perhaps warrant another look. They also now list a "tire shine product" on their website although I could not find any details on it. I think a huge potential market exists in a LASTING (and for me "glossy") tire product so that may be it. Do you have any experience with the tire material or any of their other products?

Best Regards,

Martin

I've always wondered how they could claim 5 years, just don't see that happening... except maybe if the car is kept in a sealed a/c garage, and in its own protective air-bubble cover, and never leaves the garage lol.

Then again Collinite somehow gets their carnauba wax to outlast basically any sealant or as long as the best ones lol

When I worked for Meguiar's I had a lot of people ask me about 5 Star Shine so years ago I did some research on the topic and discovered Glenn Canady's involvement, at the time his website for 5-Star Shine made it look like it was his product.

Now it looks like he was just a re-seller...

The product it self is very good. But all the marketing and lame claims have destroyed the reputation.
