With the 50/50 alcohol wipe down, I understand the Isopropyl Alcohol part but do you use tap water or distilled water for the other 50%?

Will this stuff ruin anything on the car or the MFs?

Is this the pocess for a wipe down?

1. Mix the IPA + distilled water.
2. Saturate the MF towel and wring dry.
3. Wipe down the body panel.
4. Rinse in clean water.
5. Start the process again for the next body panel.

You can either spray the mixture onto the panel like a QD and wipe, or you can spray it onto a rag and wipe. I use it like a QD. No need to wipe it off again with pure water. The alchohol will leave behind no residue (which is the point).

However, I don't mix mine. I use the 97% Isoproyl Alcohol sraight up.

As do I. ;)

I use the 71% only because it is less expensive but still does a good job. The only times I used higher grades (laboratory and reagent grade) was when I worked in the semiconductor industry.

Important: wear nitrile (or latex) gloves or your hands will get trashed!

I do not mix either..........

If you have the 70% IPA, then for a 50:50 mix use 2 parts 70% IPA to 1 part distilled water.

I just use it like a QD to remove fillers and polish residue.

I personally don't like the idea of using it, but it a necessary evil when checking your work.

At a car dealer I used it on a car I was considering buying.

Surprisingly it showed me that the paint had been properly cared for. I certainly had not been expecting that. Luckily the car had just come in and the dealer's "detailer" had not used his brillo pad to wash it.

I guess there is a reason for the 50/50 mixture, but I usually just fill up my spray bottle with pure alcohol and lightly spray the panel and then wipe it down. Kills old wax/sealant on the paint to prep it for new stuffs. I like to do a 50/50 wipe-down after polishing or just to get rid of any old paint protection so I don't have to go to Klasse AIO or some cleaner sealant type product.
