7424 Backing Plates

The PC doesn't come with a backing plate. It comes with a (basically useless) 1 piece backing plate & pad that you will most likely take off and throw in the garbage as soon as you take it out of the box. The backing plates you listed aren't so much an upgrade but a necessary component of the polisher.

For the pad and product to work efficiently it's important to closely match the backing plate to the foam pad.

4" pad - use a 3 1/2" backing plate
5 1/2" pad - use a 5" backing plate
6 1/2" pad - use a 6" backing plate

What makes those pads better than the one that comes with the PC?

I have a 5" backing plate and 5.5" pads.

The pad that comes with the PC isn't necessarily bad. What makes it not work for machine polishing a car is the fact that it is attached to the backing plate. This means that when you need to change to a different pad you need to use the wrench to take the entire plate/pad off the machine. With a "normal" backing plate you simply pull the pad off the backing plate and affix your next pad.

I said pad and meant to say backing plate. My pad and backing plate are separate that came with my PC.

Is the backing plate you have yellow? If so, it sounds like you already have one of the LC backing plates.

The normal backing plate/pad that comes with the PC is black with a white pad and it's glued together.

I just went and looked at my stuff. I do have a with pad that came with the polisher that threads on as you described. I never have used it. I also have a black backing plate. I don't remember buying it but I guess I did. I think it is this one.

I guess that is why the lake country pad does not look any different. Thanks for your help.
