I use the Portor Cable now. Was wondering what the difference between that and the FLEX is?

Flex has a forced rotation meaning faster correction with the flex. But, some will say it doesn't matter now if you use the megs MF pads with the porter.

The Flex 3401 is:

  • Forced pad rotation
  • More powerful
  • Much stronger machine
  • More ergonomic
  • Better balanced
  • Flex 3401 - $340
  • Porter Cable 7424 - $150

They're both good. For the novice, I'd get the PC7424. For more serious paint correction the Flex 3401 is a superior machine. I have them both and use them for different things. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfwbVzsphzs]YouTube - ‪Flex XC 3401 VRG vs. Porter Cable 7424 HD‬‏[/video]

Thanks all. I have been using the Portor Cable for like 3 years now. Time to upgrade to the FLEX.

Very nice video gaotman, never seen products like this go head to head in a video before.

And one of the very best differences.... LACK OF VIBRATION WITH THE FLEX! Im the MAN Im the MAN

It was that video that solidified my choice of getting the Flex. I love mine. Very easy to use, even as an amateur.

Saving this thread for future reference to reinforce that I should trade up from PC to Flex.

The PC is a sparrow, the Flex is a pterodactyl. Any questions?

Don't let anyone fool you, the PC can and will do the same thing as the Flex in the same amount of time. I very rarely even use my Flex anymore, I grab my PC almost every time. Plus you can't put a 4" pad on the Flex.

The Pterodactyl actually sucks.

Rather the Flex is more of a Falcon or a Golden Eagle

Just curious, in that YouTube video isn't he using the 7424 not the 7424XP?

Both machines have their merit, but it's really hard to compare the two because they're nothing alike. Sure their both categorized as DA's. A Civic and a 911 are both categorized as cars too.
However:
-7424 is a little bit more flexible in terms of backing plates and accessories.
-Also its reliability is legendary.
-It's more compact, lighter, and generally easier to use.
- @$125 for the 7424XP(flex $320), the Flex is 2.5X more expensive.

For a novice, these are important factors to consider. For a pro or a shop, who detail many cars in a day, it's a no brainer.

All very good points but you may be shocked at what the answer is to the no brainer.

Yes the Flex is a well built tool but it does nothing more than what the PC, GG or Megs DA's will do.

Both tools are very capable. The DA MF system has narrowed, if not bridged, the gap between the two machines, but as for quality and ergonomics, the Flex wins hands down. Also, the forced rotation and longer orbit throw help make the Flex better in 1-step corrections.

Many feel the throw of the Flex is its downfall. That's where the PC excels over the Flex.
