88 Corvette ZR2 Big doggie

I remember when that prototype came out, 400 hp was a big deal as the Corvette only made 240 hp that year. Anyone else notice those rear wheels or the wheels themselves even, remember, this is an 88'. Around the same time a company name Falconer slipped a V12 into the Corvette and IIRC it was called the "Snake Charmer" but don't quote me on this, maybe it was made for the 92' model year because of the Viper.

400 hp from a 7.4L V8, boy have times changed since I graduated high school

In '70 when the 454 first came out, it came in 390HP and 450HP versions.

By the 90's when it was a truck-only engine, it was down to less than 250HP, even in the 454SS truck. :(

From here they look like the (directional)
OEM “Sawblades” for the 1991-92 ZR-1s.

I knew a true Corvette guy would get that but the funny thing is that those wheels didn't appear in production till 1991, prototype wheels 3 years early

That right but in 70' it was measured as engine hp still, that 400 hp figure is probably at the crank which is still probably more than even that LS6 you mention and certainly more than the 390 hp version for sure.

@pro 4x:

Since I’m also a Colorado owner (although it’s
just a plain-Jane Z71 variant); and, to further
the recognition of the ZR2 nomenclature...

Here’s one-of-eight 1971 ZR2 Coupes (there
were also 4 1971 ZR2 convertibles)
RPO: ZR2 454-cid, 425-hp V-8;
aka: the “Zora Duntov Racer”.

It may not have been called “Big Doggy”,
but it also had a (Big) Rat power plant. :xyxthumbs:
