I went out and looked for a winter beater/daily driver. Max I wanted to spend was $1,000. I found this diamond in the rough and paid 1k for it. It's a 95 Volvo 850 GLT (Non turbo) w/114k miles. The color is Amethyst Pearl metallic. I thought it was a dark blue when I bought it (cloudy day) and aged paint. It was a 1 owner car with a salvage title (only evidence of body work was on the rear drivers side door from an accident in 2000, per carfax. I took her home and went to work. I used my PC with Megs 105/205, then Megs NXT followed up with zaino as a lsp. The metal side roof moldings were also all worn and silver so I taped them off and sprayed a matte black paint, then while it was still wet, hit it with a small paint roller to give it texture (so I didn't have to sand it to perfection before painting) and it came out great! The interior was disgusting. It was filled with dirt, it had the typical volvo pink faded carpet so I vacuumed and cleaned the carpet as good as I could and purchased the carpet spray paint. I then sprayed the carpet. I actually had reservations about doing this, but it was the door trim and floor So I just went for it. It did make the carpet slightly stiffer, but it looked a whole lot better than having a purple car with pink carpet, lol. I also soaked the seats in lexol leather conditioner (after cleaning) for a full day while making random passes with a heat gun. The seats were like card board. this worked pretty well and the seats eventually felt supple again. Repainted the badges (with a roller over the letters to get the OEM look), painted the grill a gunmetal color and added the famous Swedish prancing moose and this car was done! Not bad for a $1000 car!
