So ive been on a pursuit to find a good cost effective dressing that i can use on virtually everything thats rubber or plastic. The 2 products i decided to put head to head was megs hyper dressing and chemical guys new car shine dressing. So here it goes.

Price: Both are sold in gallon size although CG might have an option for a smaller size of new car shine i havent checked. Megs is around $40 and CG around $20

Smell: Megs has a good mild smell that i cant really tell what it is. Maybe a type of fruit or something so ill just call it mystery flavor. Chemical guys is much stronger cherry flavor.

Consistency: Megs hyper dressing is thin and can be diluted and put in a spray bottle which is pretty convenient for wheel wells. CG is very thick like pudding and cant be diluted.

Ease of use: Hyper dressing can be sprayed or applied to an applicator via squeeze bottle. Hyper dressing can be diluted to achieve multiple levels of shine. My biggest complaint about hyper dressing is how easy it runs if it gets even the most modest amount of moisture on it. CG goes on thick but quickly spreads and levels out. In order to use CG the surface needs to be very clean or it will streak.

Shine: Hyper dressing can achieve all levels of shine from extreme wet look to classic clean look where CG cant. CG can only achieve "wet look" although on tires its not overbearing. On trim i feel CG gives a more natural shine as if the plastic piece was brand new.

Lifespan: To me neither one of them last longer then 2 weeks. This isnt a big deal to me as these products are, IMO, meant more for detailers and not for the guy putting a coating on his garage queen. They just dont last long enough to be practical for some one who only wants to detail their car when it needs another coat of wax. IMO these products are geared to the guys who wants the car looking their best as soon as the customer comes to pick it up. Dont get me wrong though. Neither one of them are snake oils. They will last. Its just there are products out there that last much longer however they cost much more.

Running: Heres my biggest gripe with these two... They both run when they get wet which i hate. However, CG runs way less then Hyper dressing does. I feel CG needs a lot of rain over a period of days to run where Hyper dressing will run all over the car if you sneeze at it from 20 yards away.

In conclusion: Both are great products and have their place in my heart. Trim dressing running is a huge deal to me so the fact that for 20 dollars less i can get a gallon of a product that wont run as easy i have to give CG the win. How i now use both products is if its a high trim pannel like on the bed rail ill use CG new car shine. For tires and low trim i use Hyper dressing. For interior plastics it depends on the color and condition. If its black plastics ill use Hyper dressing if its light colored like grey or beige ill use CG new car shine.

Nice review. I give the edge to Megs due to the fact it can be diluted for different applications. With the dilution it is cheaper than CG and more versatile. However for $20 CG is a nice product.

Yeah i agree. With megs being able to be diluted its similar to getting about 4 gallons of dressing out of it. For tires and wheel wells i think hyper dressing is second to none. For trim though i think its great if you live in an area that doesnt get too hot and has nearly zero humidity year round. Hyper dressing just runs to easily for me. Even if you apply it and wipe it with a dry MF it still runs, from my experience.

Good review man!!

Not for nothing, for the price Meg's hyper dressing rocks 2:1.:props:

I use it on wheel wells, tires, and engine. I don't like any dressing in the inside of my cars, clean and natural is how I roll. Damp MF is all I need for the interior unless in doing something with my leather or carpet.

That fried chicken grease look on everything that's rubber or plastic is for the birds...:nomore:

Hum... since HD is a water based product, I think it's better to use Inside the car. I have never tried it on tires but since it's dillutable, that doesn't sound like the best product for tires and Wheel wells and trims.

For tires my go to product has been Opti-Bond. But there is a thread with Wheel dressing durability that you might want to check out. I think Opti-Bond did not do as well as some of the other products.

Brondondolon,
Have you tried Perl.

I have not. I almost bought some before I bought the CG noted above. It will be my next dressing to try out for sure though.

I use Megs Hyper dressing on wheel wells and engines. Love the price per ounce.

So from you experience what dressings have longevity?? That is something I am looking for.

megs HD works great for the wheels wells and engine, i use it at 3:1 - i never really cared for it on tires though. if you do a lot of cars, this is very economical and the way to go...

I've been using HD on tires, wells, trim and interior (different dilutions). It's so easy to apply via spray bottle I'm not too concerned about longevity. Smells like grape jolly ranchers too.
