I haven't been on in a long while but I still love to detail. My vette is IMPOSSIBLE. I can do our Prius, Saturn, and Corrola, but the vette has a clear coat made of some foreign substance; I am sure it not being metal has something to do with it. I have a pc and a lot of products.......any advice? She is in super shape for 6 and was paid off over 6 months ago - wooo-haaa!

:welcome: Back Lauren!

The clear's on Corvettes are extremely hard.

Since you're using the Porter Cable 7424 what size pads are you using?

I found a world of difference when I switched from the traditional 6 1/2" pads to the 5 1/2" pads. The difference in surface are contacting the finish is 10 square inches less so the machine operates much more efficiently.

  • What pads are you currently using?

I have been using the traditional 6 & 1/2 pads - guess I should alter that.
I have tried PB's, DP, and Menzerna. The Menzerna line worked the best but I can't kill all the swirls. I would much rather do a van or suv - the vette is so difficult to achieve the desired results!!!
Thank you :props: plmk what you think. - Lauren

Lauren,

For correction the Meguiar's DA Microfiber Correction Kit is another alternative, if not the entire kit try their correction pad. Optimum and Surbuf also offer this style of pad too.

I really like Menzerna products, they're my favorite lineup. :props:

If you choose to stay with a foam style pad, try Menzerna Power Gloss and a Yellow 5 1/2" flat pad. Do a small section at a time gauging your progress until you have achieved the desired results.

Here's some great information by Mike Phillips that will help you if you get stuck.
