After removing the yellow oxidation and polishing them up, what is the best coating to put on? I'd hate to be doing these for customers and have it turn yellow again in a few months. Is there a product that will last a couple years?

Wouldn't optimum lens coating or perhaps cquartz dlux do the job?

I'm using Opti-Lens but not getting 2 years out of it.

I, personally, don't plan to guarantee for 2 years. But I would like something that actually lasted that long or longer. Much easier to get referrals if customers are happy with you.

McKee spray coating is starting replace the paint sealant I use in my 50$ entry restro and tell customers it's good for 6 months
And use a prosumer quality ceramic coating for top package and state good for 1 year

There are professional detailers that offer
headlamp warranties that rival the OEMs'.

The below quotations are
excerpted from this thread:

http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/how-articles/34259-understanding-headlamp-repair.html

•"In order to restore the lens back to its OEM
standards a new UV coating must be re-applied.
There are several companies who can
provide the coating."

•"I am now able to provide a long lasting result that I
can provide with a 3 year warranty for protection.

•In conclusion, from my finding this is the only
proper way to restore a head lamp housing is
to reapply the coating.

Call me crazy, (Go ahead, Bob. Lol)

But about every other wash, I Plexus, then apply 845 to my Ram truck lenses. (Head and Tail).

They are crystal clear. Over 4 years old.

No...not crazy at all.

In fact:
You're taking very good care of the
headlamps' OEM coating. :dblthumb2:

Hopefully it'll last another 4 or more
years. If not: you'll know exactly how
to restore them to like new.

What's your prep work consist of?

It's applied to headlights that were fogged and corrected. Wetsand then compound/polish. I then use Car Pro eraser to final clean then apply 1 layer of Opti-Lens.

I am wondering if eraser is causing bonding issues. I use IPA when using opti-lens and I haven't noticed any degrading on my uncles headlights that I used it on. I now use it with optimum paint prep.

Good point, Guz and thanks. I think i will try that and then reevaluate durability.
