My AAA is up for yearly renewal since 1st of July. 3 drivers, $167. Seem kind of steep.

Been a member for more than 25 years. I've called them once for a tow. :(

Used AAA discount on hotel, a handful of times. That's about it.

I've been procastinating making a decision on this. And AAA been calling every day right when I'm in my deep sleep power nap.

I'm a Libra, need help tipping the scale.

So should I renew or not ? what would you do. Thx.

I have a new car, so does the wife. 19 yr old son drives our older 2012 Camry in summer.
They all seen unlikely to break down.

Gee. I pay $100 for me. You’ve got me thinking about this now too.

If your wife had a flat tire on an interstate and you were out of town and your son was away could she jack the car up, loosen the lugs and change it herself? Or could she just call AAA and they would change it for her. That's why I have AAA for my wife and daughter. It's an insurance policy. $167.00 / 365 days equals .45 per day for piece of mind.

If you are 50 (or older) you can join AARP ($15/yr with lots of good discounts, etc.). AARP has a roadside assistance program administered through Allstate. Their equivalent to AAA's "Plus" is called the Premier package and for 3 people it's $115 the first year and $129 thereafter. I have it and have had excellent experiences using it.

This is how to think about it.

Here on LI, it is also a question with SeaTow. How does a novice boater feel about breaking down in the open water with no knowledge of how to get their vessel running again?

And, the cost is just about identical to AAA.

If you think you, or more importantly YOURS (Ladies, kids) could benefit from it, it is kind of a mute point.

Doesn't most cell phone providers offer roadside assistance as part of your contract...if not included it may be a coupe of bucks a month.

In my bid to obfuscate
this AAA renewal debate...
(Or as some will say:
It’s an unethical way
To have empathy swayed)...

I will offer the following strategy:

I have AAA for my wife and son. Wife has Lincoln coverage but if she is ever out with friends or somewhere she isn't in her car I know she will be covered. Same with my son. I'm fine as I'm a dude and can fend well for myself. That said Infiniti covers me too and I'm rarely not the one driving if I'm out with others.

Good move to keep it for peace of mind. Especially if they don't already have coverage via new car thing.

Check you car insurance for roadside service. I pay about $8/vehicle/YEAR for roadside service through Geico. Does the same thing as AAA.

Luckily I have it and have for years, and I have used it on more than one occasion!

AAA is definitely worth the money with the free towing and roadside assistance alone. What makes it a great value is that it will work for any car that you are driving even if you do not own it. They also provide free passport photos, discounts for hotels, discount travel packages to Disney, home and auto insurance. In the past, they provided many more value added services that are not as important today, such as free road maps, travel books, no fee traveler's cheques, Trip Tiks.

Yep, I pay the same with State farm. And I pick which car I want it on.

I think i pay like $85. I wouldn't pay $167 or anywhere close to that but for less than $100 i'm fine w it. It's cheap insurance and gets me hotel discounts too. I prob don't need it since all of my cars come with road side assistance except for one which I don't drive much but it usually pays for itself w the hotel and theme park discounts.

AAA typically covers any vehicle you are in so if your spouse or child is with someone else and their vehicle has an issue it’s covered too

That’s the thing typically different from other ones from what I know

I think AAA rates vary by state because they are individually ran
