absorber removes wax?

Might be a stupid question but I was reading an old thread on here and read that absorbers remove wax when you dry with them. Any truth to this?
 
Interesting.
I have no idea, but I do remember that the old original leather chamois had that reputation. Whether it was deserved or not, I have no idea.
My personal opinion is that it doesn't, but my only reason for thinking that is because I think wax is more durable than that.
 
Not sure how true that is as I've read the same thing. The theory is as it drags across the paint, the texture of the chamois plus the friction it creates whilst being dragged could remove wax. If that is true you could just blot dry the car. For me WW towels do the trick with out having to wring it out, as long as I flood the paint with water and allow it to sheet water off first.
 
yeah, to me it doesnt seem like it would remove it but just wanting to make sure since thats what i use.

Well keep in mind the absorber doesn't have any nooks and crannies for any grit/dirt to escape to. So if you are drying your car and some trapped dirt becomes dislodged from say around the mirror and you dragged the absorber through that area it could take that grit and drag it across your paint scratching the clear coat. SO I would still suggest blot drying to be on the safe side.
 
To me, that statement is false.

I usually dry cars that I have waxed in the past and I have never felt the wax go out with the chamois. Just make sure that it's clean, and off you can go.

BTW, I have used it with NB, NR, OOS, OPS, DPS, #16 and OCW
 
if feels like 100 suction cups are pulling it, when using Absorber. I wouldn't, I think it will mar your paint. A good MF drying towels is much better.
 
a pile of microfibers and a Megs Water Magnet is my weapon of choice for drying
 
Microfiber Towels are the way to dry much easier safer and faster.

Of all the MF towels I own, I dislike the two Water Magnet the most. I use them as glass drying towels. I would strongly recommend trying another brand.
 
i was in the same situation as you were about 2 weeks ago. Decided to order a Supreme Guzzler Microfiber towel and ill never look back. Even if you are worried about removing previous wax coats(which im still not sure if a shamois does or doesnt) use one of these bad boys which is said to not remove wax or sealant you have on your paint. Its all about the good ol' waffle weave hahah
 
To answer your question, NO, the Absorber does not remove wax. I have used one for years and love it.
 
I go by the thought that anything dragged against paint is wearing down a sealant or wax. Its mechanically abrading the surface no matter how soft the towel or procedure. I like using leaf blower as possible and a spray lubricant when drying to keep this to a minimum.

Sorry to revive an old post, but I had a nasty experience with my Black 09 CTS.

I'm fairly pragmatic about my car washing approach, but the one time I get lazy with "The Absorber", I get two nice scratches 6inch scratches along the hood.

The method was 1) Power rinse, 2) Foam (2 minute set time), 3) Megs GC Wash in a grit guard bucket with a MF chenile mitt, 4) Flood rinse.

I was using the blotting method with the absorber, but got impatient and pulled it across the hood. I realized that it was a bad idea and immediately checked the area that I pulled over. I noticed 2 separate 6 inch scratches the ran exactly parallel with the direction that I pull the Absorber. UNBELIEVABLE!! The one time a pull the Absorber I get scratches! This is a true testiment of the riskes of pulling an Absorber across your paint.

Moral of Story: Only use the blotting method with the Absorber (don't be lazy like me :rolleyes:). I suppose this is another point on the MF board, but I do find the Absorber to be superior to any MF when using the blotting method.
