So yesterday was the day...ADS Quartz Coating Day!

I started at home actually with the prep work as far as cleaning, let's get started

First up was chemical decon and for this I finished off my bottle of Bilt-Hamber Karrosol, liberally applied to the whole car and let dwell

While dwelling I prepared the pre-wash, which was 6 oz of Bilt-Hamber Touchless in my Griot's Garage foam gun (usually use 3 oz), let dwell and rinsed down

Next up, while still wet, I used some mixed up clay lube and my red, Griot's Garage clay mit and moved around the EN. To my surprise I could feel grit as I moved along the car but this clay towel made quick work of the grit

Moving along to the 2BM wash and again, a stronger wash was called for. I finished off my bottle of Adam's graphene carwash (1.5 oz) and then added 2 oz of CarPro Descale for good measure. As I began to wash I couldn't believe how much glide my wash mit had at this point...VERY noticeable

The tires and wheels were last, usually first but not this time around. The wheels were treated to Nv Purge iron remover, along with Brake Buster to hold it in place better and Griot's Garage 3 in 1 Tire, wheel and mat cleaner for the tires, the Quattro of brushes did their job very well

Once done I sprayed the EN down with more water and applied Gyeon Q2 Wet Wax to the EN's rims as well as black lower trim pieces, the grill, rear, lower bumper panel and the exhaust tips

I pulled the car into the street and dried it off, weird drying the car off w/o any protection on it, although it dried off very easily. At this point I was done, 2+ hrs here and wait for my noon appointment at The Bays of Wheeling

I arrived at the Bays early, as suggested and got directed inside, so I did, unloaded the trunk of my tools and got crackin'...IN THE ZONE

I had a plan well before I started, use a cotton applicator for small areas (door handles and cups, under the spoiler, inner part of the side mirrors, narrow painted strip of the front bumper and window surrounds)

The polish of choice was an older product but one that made sense considering the EN's paint condition (minor RIDS, if that even). I also chose it after reading about its "propitory ingredients", love that phrase because of how much I heard it from "that guy up north" using it SO MUCH The polish of choice here was Optimum Hyper Polish and I couldn't have been happier using it! I paired it with Griot's Garage thin orange pads (3" and 5")

I started with smaller, narrow areas using the mini Griot's Garage RO using the 3" backing plate and then the larger Griot's Garage RO using the 5" backing plate to knock out the rest of the EN

I inspected each panel using my cellphones LED light and a simple 4 section pass was all that was needed to make the paint look it's best. The small machine I used speed setting #6 and the larger one speed setting 5-5.5, no problem for my 14 year old machine at all

I had some time left over before they closed so I applied 3x's ADS Ghost tire coating to the EN's Michilen Sport 4S', leaving 10 minutes inbetween coats

I posted alot of similar pics and used my "ass"istants to break things up but the 1st three pics are the front...bare paint, polished and then coated, my "help" breaks into bare, polished and coated too, hopefully they post in order

Conclusions
----------

This coating right here was SUPER easy to use, I couldn't believe it! I applied it per the directions, flashed in about 2 minutes or so and used the 2 towel method to remove, 1 to knock it down, a second to level. I should also mention again how well Optimum Hyper Polish did here..no dust and finished down VERY nicely

I go to pick it up in about an hour and once home I'll be treating the Alcantera and leather bits using Gyeon Leather Shield and DIY Detail Interior ceramic

Hey Klasse--did you do a panel wipe after the Hyper Polish? Also, which GG 3" do you have, one of the older ones or the newer with the trigger?

On another note, I looked up The Bays, that seems like an interesting idea for a business, but the rate they charge seems awful low (from a business standpoint, not the consumer standpoint). It looked pretty full on a Saturday, do you know what their business is like during the week?

I did do a panel wipe after doing the Optimum Hyper Polish, it wax Gyeon Q2 Panel Wipe, great question/catch on your part

Both my Griot's Garage R.O.'s are the old style, bought in early 2010, 2 years before I joined AG infact

As far as how busy they are during the week, not sure but my rate was just a space, didn't use their tools. An example, next time I go there will be to wash my car, using their equipment and that will cost me $57.00 for 2 hrs.

They also do detailing classes/seminars and had Ivan LaCriox there about a month ago, also a rep from Dr. Beasley recently which makes sense because they're Chicago based.

Nice!

Are you going to be able to not wash it for 7 days without going mad?

Well I emailed ADS and he told me I could do a RW, no soaps for 1 week, so I'll live and besides, I'm leaving for the Dragon this Wed, no access to a carwash till this Sat but we're going to this Concourse type show in downtown Chattanooga, so no time for a wash

I plan on doing a RW this Tuesday after my trip from the dealership for this ECU flash for the fuel pump, I don't think they'll be replacing my fuel pump...unfortunately because I "think" it's not up to the task of my Stage 1 ECU tune that we took out monthes ago and ofcoarse they don't have the HPFP for the other part of "the fix" for the recall, so why even bother if your not ready 100% to make the repair....back on topic, sorry

The EN will be getting a full road trip wash the day after I come back, looking forward to THAT wash for sure

Since I coated the exterior yesterday, today I turned my attention to the interior

I did the usual quick vac before doing anything. Next up was DIY Detail Interior Ceramic on ALL Alcantara bits, sans the door panel inserts, their fine. Once sprayed, I use my Colourlock brush to work it into the fibers of the Alcantara, so those bits are good to go

Next was to clean the leather bits, Griot's Garage Leather cleaner was the choice, along with the Scrub Ninja for the steering wheel cleaning, such a must have in your arsenal

Once the leather cleaner dried up it was time to coat it, Gyeon Q2 Leather Shield was applied using a suede applicator and block. I'm just about out of this coating and it's been truely a great product to have a SOLID base of protection

The final thing was to spray some Griot's Garage Stinky Be Gone JDM squash to try and "squash" the chemical smell of DIY Detail Interior Ceramics, it's a STRONG smelling product, thankfully the EN isn't going anywhere till tomorrow morning

Nice work as usual!! (y)

Question regarding the ADS Quartz, how slick is the finished result, does it need a topper to make it slick?

I'll tell yah Deyon, upon removal I could feel the slickness in my 350 GSM Eagle edgeless mf towel, might become more slick as it cures. Per the directions you can use a couple of their other products to protect the coating as it cures but I didn't do that but a RW is coming up soon, stay "tuned"

Looks great! I may have to give the ADS coating a try when the current run of Gyeon products on our cars wears out.

How hard is the paint on your car? I love HyperPolish and used it on cars with really soft paint with great results, but found it didn't quite have the cut needed for a one step on anything harder than a Honda or Toyota.

I'd say my paint is soft to medium at the most but because my paint was in pretty good shape I knew Optimum Hyper Polish could handle it but I had back ups ready though.

If you go ADS I'd suggest their Pro version, I didn't think I needed that level of strength but always revisionist history but I'm happy with this, I'll keep it good shape

Don't you have to be a "pro" to get their pro version?

Oh, I see...I never looked at their pro coating because I figured you had to be a certified installer, but the ADS website says this:

"Armour PRO Quartz Coating is available to consumers, however, we are providing a top tier professional coating on the consumer level. To gain access to Armour PRO each applicant will go through a quick "vetting" process to determine their readiness for this level of coating. Please apply here to gain an approved account!"

Yeah I figured I'd be ok with the regular and knowing them, it's probably better than 3 yr. My car will be a good test as it's outside 24/7, except now I can't run it through the touch-free wash and Bilt-Hamber pre-washes anymore, stupid knock sensor

No topper needed. Amplify would be optional and it would add more gloss and slickness.
What do you think about their spray ceramic as booster from time to time Mike
