The Metro Air Force Blaster comes with a 12' long hose. The hose is long, stiff, and unwieldy for me.
In using the machine as a blower, I find it very hard not to let the hose drag on the ground. Besides the length, the stiffness of the hose makes it sort of hard to control. Besides the hose dragging on the ground, it always seems to want to bang against or drag on the car. Using it in a single car garage, its almost impossible to not have the hose drag against the car. Not to mention, without the dolly, the unit constantly flips over with every movement of the hose if you sit the machine on the ground.
If you try and use the machine by holding it in your hand the extra hose again drags on the ground and bangs against the car constantly. This is because the hose is so stiff, its hard to control.
This would often lead me to use this instead:
So I picked up the 3" extension hose for the Metro Vac hoping it was the same diameter as the Air Force Blaster hose. The plan was just to use the unit by holding it and with the shorter hose it would be easier to control and not drag on the ground.
Well it wasn't the same diameter - it was smaller.
However, it did fit perfectly on the inside collar of the blower:
The "extension" hose also has a hole in it with a collar that can rotate to cover it.
I'm not sure what purpose this hole serves, but I covered it up with some Krazy Glue and electrical tape
After that, I glued the collar so it always covers where the hole is.
Now the blower is a lot easier to use by holding it in one hand, and holding the hose end in the other. My big question was if the hose would blow out of the connection because now it was only a press fit. It turns out the press fit is very tight, and it doesn't pop out at all.
Now I'll be using the blower a lot more and it will be flipping over much less! I would encourage anyone with this machine who has these issues to give the shorter hose a try.
