For those of you in South Fla, just wanted to give you a head's up that this weekend is the annual McDonald's Air and Sea Show on Fort Lauderdale beach. It is absolutely free and if you've never been before it is an experience you will never forget. I go every year and I look forward to it each time. :) This year the Thunderbirds will be flying. Here is a link for the scheduled events for those of you who are interested.

Those scare me, too many crashes lately. I am not a big fan of flying in the first place, but the shows are beautiful. Do not forget its Sunfest weekend too!

Lost one not but 2 hrs from me :( sad really. Blue Angels lost a great pilot/man. RIP....

Well Jen, have a good time if you go again!!

Friend of mine has a house right there on the beach in Luaderdale By The Sea. The places fly directly right over and hit the turn around point at his house. Pretty sick. I got a hell of a sun burn last time, 1st time I've had one in years and I'm always in the sun...guess 10+ hours in the sun with no lotion will do that:D

:righton: Last one I went to was on Pensacola Beach and it was awesome! My dad was in the Air Force for 22 years and we used to live on an Air Force Base so it wasn't a big thing for me but the family LOVED it........well, except when the B1 Lancer (supersonic bomber) did a fly-by at full speed:eek: Here is a pic from the show to show you how close it flew to us....you could almost "feel" it when it went by. OK, OK....scared the livin' sh*t out of me:p When a B1 is close enough to see the pilot while in flight, it's too damn close!! lol

The middle two were taken by me on a slow pass with a 2mp camera in 2001, less than a month after 9/11. Needless to say, seeing the firepower at that particular time was VERY reassuring....I was VERY proud that day, especially when this bad boy reared it's head(I had never seen one before)! Next time it came by it was over Mach 1, the same distance away and shot up---almost straight up and then rolled, which is awesome for how big it is. The wings actually fold back when in high speed flight. It's VERY loud, VERY big, and VERY fast! The last pic shows how big it is in comparison to a man.

It was actually really quiet until it gets past you, then it's deafening, thunderous roar hits you! It gave me goose bumps! Enjoy these videos:

Turn up your volume!

These shows are supposed be fantastic. Every year Chicago has a big Air and Water show down at the lakefront.
I've never been because I really don't like big crowds. These things draws like 2 million people, yes, 2 million.
I've put more miles on planes than I care to think about and I would love to see it but these shows are just not for me.
Put me in 1st class to some exotic island and I'm a happy girl.:D

49th Annual Chicago Air & Water Show
Along the lakefront near North Avenue Beach
1600 N. Lake Shore Drive

More than 2 million people will swarm the lakefront for the oldest and largest free
show of its kind in the country. Get great views and play-by-play coverage from
North Avenue Beach or plant yourself at Oak Street Beach.

I would like to go but I'll be flying in a Porsche at Sebring this weekend.

seen one ..... seen them all. Should say, get trampled at one get trampled at all. We are bringing our second son (Shane) into the world this weekend, so I think we'll stay put. :D

I actually go on the Friday practice before the official start of the weekend Air Show. I can't handle 4 million fellow specatators on a 2 mile stretch of beach on the Saturday or Sunday. But on the Friday you get to see them practice. It's not the entire show, you don't get to see the stealth bomber or hear the announcers, but I can live without those for the sake of sanity. Since it's a work day the beach is not too crowded. The kids get to play in the sand and I get to see the Thunderbirds! :D I'll try to take some pics and I'll post 'em up if they come out good. Ya'll know how I am with photography. lol

Those pics are awesome Dengood! That's so cool that your dad was a flyboy. I LOVE the sound of the planes. I've been watching the Blue Angels fly for as long as I can remember and I still get excited every time I see them. They are just awesome! My heart breaks for the pilot who passed. These guys are amazing with the amount of skill and bravery they have. I know they always make me gasp every time I see them.

OOOOH that's much better!!! Congratulations Scott. I wish Catherine all the best for a trouble free delivery. Just remember one word, "epidural"! :) I expect to see lots of baby pics!

When Chris and Shane get older, you might want to consider taking a Friday off of work to see the show, it's much much better than the weekend. :)

I hope everyone goes. My squadron is sending a couple planes to the show. BTW, show the maintainers a good time. :D  . Also, congratulations scott.

Huge congrats to you.

Jen if you want, my buddy isn't sure if he's going to be in, our families are still good friends and I can use the beach house right there. But not sure if I'll make it this weekend with some othe rstuff. If I'm going, I'll shoot you an email and your more then welcome to come over. House on the beach > fighting the crowd:D...traffic is a beotch though at the time, when we go we spend the night before there to avoid the cluster fawk.

Enjoy Jenn.
My buddy that I'm with every Thursday was on the "Thunderbird" team years ago. Normal guy until he gets in an airplane and then he's a wild man. Him and I flew out of Phoenix recently and chased rabbits ( 100 feet off the ground) in a twin engine beechcraft for an hour.
Interesting note while your watching; the "Thunderbird" team now has their first lady pilot (fairly recent so not sure if she's flying the shows but think so).
Congratulations Scott.

I may stand corrected on first lady "Thunderbird". Just Googled it up and there are a couple of ladies flying, Nicole and Samantha.
