So I've been detailing on the side for almost 3 years now. I enjoy the work and started doing it cause I enjoyed it. I found this site "God bless all of you" And starting gaining knowledge like crazy, which lead to better detailing and happier customers.

I've been doing CNC work for the past 5 years. I currently left that to seek other opportunities. I got a job detailing cars at a high end collision repair shop. Ive been there the past 6 months. All they deal with is high end stuff. Mercedes, BMW, Porche, Antiques, and Customs. So I've been taking pictures of all the cars I have done for a website in the near future.

So with that advantage and my experience at hand I was contemplating taking my "Business" to the next step. I get caught at one crossroads though in my venture. Open up a small garage? Or, Buy a trailer and trade in my car for a truck and go mobile. "Which would also be nice with my boat" :).

I already do mobile as it is, and is pretty tight fit in my Altima. I think it would be nice to have a shop where everything can have a home and not have to be taken in and out of a trailer. Nice clean floors with constant shade and light. Then again who wants to have to set up a ride or wait somewhere while there car is being cleaned for 1-5 hours. Each has their perks and downfalls but the more customer friendly would seem to be Mobile.

Come tax returns I'm ordering a steamer and a carpet extractor. Other then a few odd and end things that would finish my detailing equipment. :)

What do you think is the best route to go? I don't live in a very big town "New Smyrna Beach" 20 minutes from Daytona. A lot of retirement.

Thanks for your opinions and help in advance! :)

I have a shop and never have a problem people leaving there cars for 6-8 hours. it comes down to if you have a place to detail or would you rather do mobile. Some people do both for me mobile is not an options for me and I love working from home. I do have a pick up and drop off service which has been a big success for me.

Only you know for sure if your market (a lot of retirement) will support the expenses related with having either type of detailing businesses, or not.

Also:
I can't fathom the collision shop allowing you to take pictures...pictures for what I can only see as your building of a portfolio via their Customers' vehicles...a portfolio being built as a reference for securing future Customers of your own.

Sounds like a good Company at which to work, if they so allow such a practice.
