I've always hated claying my cars espically since I always have a tendency to drop the bar. I've seen many products and
brands offering alternatives such as hand mits and also hook pads like 3D that fit on DA"S and other hand applications by other brands. Which brands have you guys used in the past that has had some good easy results?

You, my friend, need a nanoskin 6" pad on a DA.
Nanoskin Autoscrub Fine Foam Pad

Anything that you can't reach with this, get with the Nanoskin towel.

Keep around your clay as a back up, but since I've moved to these a couple years back, I haven't had to reach for clay once. Now bonded decontamination takes, quite literally, a fraction of the time. Clay alternatives are the epitome of, "Work smarter, not harder."

Easier is not necessarily better. I've prove numerous times to myself that I can continue to remove contaminants from paint using clay...after I've used a clay alternative. For my car it's clay only. For production work a clay alternative is good enough and an obvious time saver

I have only used a couple different brands but they all seem very similar and I dont think that I've heard that any specific brand is much better than the other.

They do make the task quicker and easier. What I would recomend, if you where only to get one, is to get a clay towel or mitt. They are pretty flexable and can be used almost anywhere you would use traditional clay. The pads and blocks may limit a little on where you can fit them into.

I have never needed to hand clay any surface after using my nanoskins the correct way, even with the fine pad. The fact that it's easier and quicker is just a bonus. Only reason to even break out the clay is in tight spaces.

I was to vague on the topic.
When I mean easier I mean your more productive. You don't have to waste your time trying to flat out a fresh clay after it get dirty. It saves some time if your trying to be productive.

So a fine pad would be fine? And what lube could I use? I have plenty of mothers and meg clay lube that comes with their clay

Fine or light grade is good for most and should be less likely to mar. You could use either lube you have. I often use a rinseless or my wash soap at regular wash dilution just because I like to keep things simple.

I have a nanoskin fine mitt and a cobra clay mitt. In my experience nanoskin is far superior because it works much faster and better. My BIL and I did his truck that is an '06 and had never been clayed. I had the cobra and he used my nanoskin. He got the truck done in the time it took me to do a few small sections and still had to go over what I had been working on. Both mitts were broken in by using them on glass.

This sums it up!!

Yeah, if you have a DA the pads are awesome. One pass with it is like 20 passes with something by hand or more.

I'll change mine too; if you only get one, get a pad for the DA if you have one to use, and keep a couple bars around.

Hands down the Nanoskin for your DA!

Nanoskin Blue Auto Scrub pad. As for lube I use car soap and water after I clean the car the 1st time. I will not rinse but use a 2nd round of soap and water and use the scrub pad. IMO this is the fastest way to clay. No need for clay lube or anything else.

That is the way I do it and works fine for me.

I agree with you. I have experienced the same thing as you.

the blue and red Nanoskin sponge is what i use these days. I do have clay in my inventory still but that is for back up just in case the sponge cant get the job done but that has not happend yet. thinking about getting the nanoskin 6" pad formy flex though

I use the Speedy Prep Towel (fine grade). I mark the cloth into 4 sections with a magic marker. Fold it up so you have one section at a time exposed. Quick Detailer as lube. Works well on my DD but I'm just hobbies and DD is well maintained. That said I do paint small parts of the trim and get overspray and the Speedy Prep Towel gets it off every time so far.

Surf City makes a wonderful product called "ClayZilla."I have been using it, same (replaceable pad) on third vehicle. I think it is very comparable to clay, and saves a lot of time, also more even contact with paint. Go to their website. I cannot imagine going back to clay, except for maybe a real tight corner. Their lubricant is called Gorilla Juice, and the sprayer is frugal, works well.
