Different brands, models and years will have different types of carpet. I'm fortunate the following method works well for the vehicle mentioned below. Be selective of using this method on a customers vehicle until you've gained some experience on a few carpets. *An upholstery shop can usually offer a few samples for little or no cost*

I'll work to take a few photos tonight.

My wife was quite selective when it came to her car. She wanted a Subaru forester with a Turbo, Automatic and had to be silver or red exterior.

Wow... coming up on year 3, and I've had a semi-annual cycle of cleaning the car.

95% of the time, the rear seats are laid down, making a large flat area for the dogs to ride, and sometimes hang on for dear life!

In their rides, three things happen.
1. the border collies hair becomes 1 with the carpet loops
2. the great danes hair becomes 1 with the headliner material
3. the effects of toe nails on short pile carpet has it toll.

After a few months, the carpet will begin to "shed" making for a matte of strings that lay the direction the carpet is cleaned/brushed/vacuumed.

To tidy things up, I grab the animal hair clippers!
They have with them a large selection of guards for various lengths of hair. The 2 shortest guards are quite close to the depth of the carpet pile.

After using the shop vac on the carpet, I will use the vac to "stand" the carpet up. Then, just like grooming a critter, shave off the extra matte with the safety of the guard locked onto the cutter.

Works great, takes away the matte and the guard prevents damaging the carpet.

photos tonight!

This would probably work great on the cheapo trunk carpets in most imports! Great thinking!

Great idea.

Only problem for me is, if I touched her Oster's, I'd be singing soprano in the choir...LOL.

For those who do NOT have clippers, every once in a while Wahl 'home' clippers kits go on sale at something like $15-$20, even have the guards in the kits.
