I have thinking about getting a dash cam recently after reading some threads on other forums of people getting in accidents and getting screwed by insurance or people running away after accidents. Basically, I want to have something to capture these moments to protect myself. I also would like it to be able to record a lap time for example if I were to ever go to a track.

Was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for cam that is not too expensive. Would like the spend less than 100 if possible.

The only requirement I have is it needs to be discreet, I am tall, so my viewpoint will be obstructed by anything mounted high, my rear view mirror sits at eye level for me! So It would need to mount low or behind the mirror.

I am going to do some research, but I figured maybe some you geeks might have some ideas. :)

Drift 720 HD. It doesn't work well at night, but it's a great action cam. Got mine for 50 bucks off ebay.

It's a little over kill but I'd say GoPro. More uses that just the dash cam and so much fun to use.

The Drift and likewise make good dashcams, but since they're not dedicated ones but are action cams, they might not have all the features an actual one would have.
I'm going to make a plug for a great guy on YouTube named Techmoan. If you look at his channel he has multiple reviews on dashcams that you can buy for cheap online..some you might not find researching on your own.
I believe he also has a blog where everything is in detail..

After some research, I've decided to go with GoPro 3 Silver. Big "C" has a bundle for $229 with lots of brackets (sometimes value added with Big "C"). Good luck.

I'm glad the "dash cams" are, seemingly, in vogue again.

I fondly remember the 1960's, when changes in Social-attitudes, allowed the emergence
of mini-skirts and other rising...as well as some that were plunging...garments.

This also gave rise to, let's say: 'other practices':
Practices where "dash-cams", often, were employed...
Given (on the) double-duty status, as it were.

However...As the decades rolled by:
There was, once again, a change in Social-attitudes...
prompting a piece of: "Forbearance-Legislature":
The Video Voyeurism Prevention Act of 2004

This "Act" also was a prompt for many to unload their "dash cams".
If I still had mine...you could have it...Gratis!!
