Bought a bottle tonight, tried it on my wife's car. Absolutely hate the product. Goes on way too clear, can't see that it's on, does not haze up or dry, and is a PITA to remove.

At least I got a semi decent mf towel out of it.

sounds like your used to something like turtle wax that is white when applied to the paint.

you probably used WAY too much ultimate wax trying to lay a tremendous coat on to see it.

You can WOWO with this wax, its pretty simple IME.

No...I, for one, do not dislike Ultimate Liquid Wax.
Thanks for asking.

Sounds like you would like Poorboys QW+.
This is basically liquid wax that you apply with a red foam sponge.
It goes on light tan / white in color and drys this way, but is not a WOWO so it is not in the same category. Maybe I should say I don't use it WOWO.

ULW sounds similar to Aquawax in application.
Goes on as easy as PB Spray & Gloss, but rather than just adding a quick shine, it seems to add a slickness as well. I am still on my first bottle of trying it out.

You don't have your profile location completed.
If you are in the Chicago metro area, I can put some PB QW+ in a 4oz spray bottle for you to try. This sounds like what you are after.

PB QW+ is 12.99 but you need to supply your own applicator and MF towel.
I use the PB version of the CCS Euro Foam Hand Applicators ( cut them into quarters ) or you can go with the CCS red applicator.

What condition is the paint in on your wife's car?

For the most part, spray on waxes or sealant really only apply and wipe off paint in excellent condition.

Years and years ago there was a thread on another forum where a person tried Quik Wax and didn't like it and created a thread about it.

I chimed in and asked the same above question and the person replied the car sits outside all the time and hadn't been waxed for years. I explained that chances were very good their car needed a thorough washing, the claying and then a cleaner/wax at a minimum to get the paint back into "good" condition. And then... they could use a spray wax.

Also, two ways to use "most" spray waxes and that is to,
  • Mist on, spread around, wipe to a dry shine using a dry microfiber towel
  • Mist on, spread around, allow to dry and then wipe-off to a dry shine

Each company's products will have different chemistry so their directions should get first consideration.

I have no issues with ULW. Actually I decently like it, just used it yesterday on the DD.

I rather like ULW. It is easy on and if applied thin it is a breeze to remove. I love the fact that it can be applied in direct sun and doesn't dry white so it allows me to use it on all the exterior including black textured vinyl trim. I notice a high level of slickness as well, lasting for months.

I'd suggest maybe giving it another try. Sometimes, a slight change in technique is all that is needed to turn a poor performing product to a winner. I use this product in a WOWO fashion.

As Mike mentions, it is not a cleaner wax product and does need to be applied to a good smooth paint surface.

I personally am not a fan of ULW or the paste vesrion either. I bought ULW when it first came to market and had problems from the start. I was fully aware of the need to apply it sparingly and thin but removal was where the troubles started. It never seemed to cure/bond to the surface. Even after letting the car sit undisturbed in the garage for a week the product could still be smeared like an oily haze was on the car. I went back and removed the wax and made sure the surface was completely clean before reapplication and still got the same smearing. Spoke with Meguiars at length and they even sent me a free tub of the paste version to try and used their suggestions for application such as the "wipe off after a few minutes, do not allow to haze" method but got the same results as before. Further conversations led to comments from meguiars that the surface may be "too good for this product" and that "this product is for cars that are exposed to the elements regularly, not show type vehichles". After that I just packed the ULW and UPW away and went back to Mothers Reflections as my LSP for my car. I'm not saying it's a bad product for others, just bad for me.

I've had similar results with UQW. I originally wanted to use UQW while drying the last few drops of water, just to avoid going over the whole car with an extra step - but this did cause me some trouble with oily streaks that couldn't be removed easily - in the end it didn't save me a step and provide equal or better results. In the winter (when I use a spray wax more frequently) I'll save some time out in the cold and sacrifice a little streaking that will go unseen within a few miles of salt spray.

If I use the right amount of product it works well, beading, slickness and shine are good. But the added moisture from leftover rinse water was causing some issues - and we're only talking about some drops in door handles, ridges and creases. In the summer this isn't so much of an issue since those drops dry up quickly and UQW will aid in removing any spotting from them.

Spring and Fall are the not as good times for me with UQW, water drops don't evaporate before a UQW application and I don't want to see the streaking. UQW does improves the look but it does take an extra step. There's no free lunch in Spring and Fall for me.

Do I like UQW? Yes, but it is all in how you use it. I have a feeling ULW is similar in that respect.
