Just curious how you clean your drive train and what products you use? Over at the mountain bike forum there is a lot of debate on how to clean the drive train, especially the chain, so I was curious what the expert detailers here who mountain bike think?

I live in Florida and get a lot of sand on my chain so I have to clean it regularly.

I live in Arizona part time. Look at the Finish Line brand of products. They have everything you need. Even waxes for your frame.

I use the SRAM quick link and remove the chain and soak in mineral spirits overnight. Agitate, then dry it off with compressed air (with a paper towel on the other side to catch any remaining junk). Clean the rings and cassette with a APC, a brush and very low pressure water to rinse.

Hardcore mountain biker here !!! When I detail my bike I take the chain off and soak it in gasoline. Then blow it with air, put it back on bike and lube. Have you tried a wax chain lube? They help keep the chain and drivetrain cleaner. I just use apc on the cassette now since changing to wax chain lube.

Finish line has a spray degreaser. I used it to clean derailleurs when I worked at a bike shop. We also used car fuel for chain soaking, but instead used diesel because it has some natural lubrication to it.

As far as lube, I recommend Rock N Roll Extreme or Prolink.

I use KMC chains that have there on quick link that is easy to disassemble.

I've always heard that soaking a chain in something that harsh will remove the internal roller grease. Although, I'd rather have a clean chain myself because all that grit has got to add resistance and wear out expensive cogs and rings. Chains are cheap.

This is what I use... really great stuff as it goes on dry.
