Any Tips on Quieting Down My Generator?

I have a 5000 watt coleman Generator with a briggs motor. It is fairly loud and I'm wondering if anyone has any tips to quiet it down. Do they sell quiet mufflers?

I had seen some posts somewhere on detailers using strapped batteries and then using a converter to run power devices.
 
How many batterires would it take to run an inverter strong enought to run an air compressor? I wouldn't mind going that route if it wasn't a million batteries.
 
Something that I have been thinking about is that most Briggs & Stratton engines have a pipe thread in the exhaust port. If you remove the muffler and look into the exhaust port you'll see the pipe threads. This is for indoors applications so the exhaust can be piped up and through the roof of garages factories etc.etc.

You could use some black pipe nipples and elbows to pipe the exhaust to wherever you want to go with it. I've been considering piping my exhaust down through the floor of my van and attaching it to a small car muffler under the van.

This I am sure this would take a bit of mechanical creativity to pull off but it's certainly a possibility and would surely quiet things down but I would have to decide on a fixed location for my generator and bolt it down to the floor before doing this.

I've also been considering the batteries and inverter method that has been mentioned above. It would consist of 3 or 4 deep cycle marine batteries wired in parallel +to+to+ and -to-to-to- to keep it at 12 volts and then wired into a 5000 watt inverter. This would be absolutely quiet but would involve having a custom built high amperage alternator built to handle the extra load, the price of an isolator switch to isolate this system from your van's starting battery while the van is not running, the batteries and the inverter. This would surely be a cost of over $1000 and again some mechanical creativity to pull off.

Just some thoughts on the subject that I have been having. Whether it will help you or not I am not sure of.

Just hook a 3500watt inverter up to your car battery and leave the engine running and you will be fine that what i did.
 
Your generator runs at 3600 rpm and do if you try to use some pipes and different muffler you could run into back pressure problems and overheating the engine and damaging exhaust valve. As I see it you have 2 options,,, use inverter and run your vehicle or try to find and RV used generator which are quiet and run at 1600 to1800 RPM.

Quieten That Generator
 
I added a nice John Deere muffler to my tecumseh powered generator for 30 bucks plus a little drilling/grinding and a new gasket and it is now about 1/3 as loud as it was. This is the flange type (not threaded), and I don't know the angles will work for your machine. The bore ID is 1". This muffler weights about 7-8 lbs and has baffles designed to cancel sound waves from a 1 cylinder engine, which is very important.
