yo,

So we've had lots of discussions regarding different types of wash mitts and wash sponges, but does anybody use a wash brush to wash their car? I see lots of brushes here and there that are clear-coat safe, some with a short handle, some with a long handle, and some with the telescoping handle for washing large vehicles.

Does anybody prefer washing with a brush? Any scratches from this? Are they more effective at removing dirt than a wash mitt or sponge? Any easier/faster?

Thanks,
Emile

I have used a brush once or twice and did not like it. With a mitt you can feel whats going on. With the brush you only have visual and, hopefully, not audio.

A brush will never touch my paint. Period. Wheels, wheel wells, trunk lid, under the hood in the nook and crannies, door jams, and a soft boars hair brush for interior cleaning only.

I use a Montana boars hair brush all of the time and absolutely love it. I've never had any issues whatsoever in terms of marring. They are very soft, hold a ton of wash within the head, and the dirt/debris rinses right off. I still use the 2 bucket/grit guard combo. Is it faster? On taller vehicles, absolutely, as I don't have to use a step stool to reach the higher/more difficult spots (windshields/roofs etc). Its just a different technique compared to using a mitt. Only use the weight of the brush across the paint surface, and make overlapping strokes on the panel your working on to ensure you've loosened all the dirt. For really heavy grime on lower rocker panels/front ends, I will switch to a bug sponge for a little extra bite.

Some like the mitt, some like the brush. I'm a brush kind of guy. I've tried numerous mitts, but have yet to find one I truly like using or get better results than my boars hair brush.

I use the Montana brush when the car has light dirt. If the car is muddy or has a lot of road grime I use a sheeps skin mitt.
