So apparently there's some info going around on Facebook and Pinterest that if you spray deet/ insect repellant on your headlights you can wipe away all the haze and oxidation etc.

Well as most of you will know from an ounce of common sense it doesn't work and just melts your plastic. Anyone ever dealt with this?

I used the meguiars pro kit, sanded 320, 500, 800, 1000, 3000 and refined with 105 and 205. Sealed with m21 for now as its a test car and I've yet to order opti lens. Took about two hours including shooting the bull with an old friend.

I only got a before of the right headlight but they were pretty bad especially at the top.

My god... All that for headlights? How bad did deet screw then up? My last cars headlights got bad and I fixed them by hand with the rainx kit in like 20 minutes

Yeah it was a bugger. Deet went pretty deep in melting the plastic. When I did my moms car all I used was Scholl's S0 and then 105 and 205 and it turned out fantastic. I let him know how dumb it was to use deet... I can since we're old pals.

I'm thinking the Scholl's method I found in the forums is the money maker. I left the house without S0 in hand so I couldn't try on these lights.

Here's the lights on my moms ride.

I just did a set for a customer this morning. The side he applied it on had a lot more crazing. I mentioned it to him but he insisted it was like that before so I just let it go. It wouldn't surprise me if it makes plastic more brittle and susceptible to crazing with the summer heat.

Yeah the plastic on these headlights was like nothing I've dealt with before it'll be interesting to see how they hold up now. There was a lot of internal cracking on the parts where he sprayed.
