I recently bought a Makita 9227 from another detailer via facebook to have as a second for $115 shipped. When I got it, it had a rattling noise. Opened it up to find some of the teeth from the bevel gear broken. Cost to replace will be roughly $70 to replace it (I don't have the tools to deal with the bushing. A new machine can be bought for $189, making my investment nearly the same as buying a new one.

I don't think the seller knew it was an issue and he simply thought it was a normal sound as he bought it used and it was like that already. Before asking for a refund I figured I'd see if anyone has an old one that has a dead motor and would sell me the whole gear assembly (just 4 screws) and make life a whole lot easier.

Mine isn't dead but it sounds close. I have a new 849-X so,I could send the Makita away. Make offer
