Anyone not use a sealant?

Do any of you geeks take care of your cars with waxes only with no sealant underneath?
Do waxes like 845 provide adequate uv protection? Just wondering.
 
i am known to some as a purest.. i never use sealents (unless it is special requested by a customer.. but not on my personal vehicals)

I dont like the way a sealent looks, i dont like the shine. I want depth.

I use wax, they have protected my car well. I dont even bother reading about sealents anymore... reminds me i need to take that off my web site...


If you want to know how much of a numba man i am ask joep, mikeyc, and many more..(sorry for those who i missed, which i am sure i will hear about)


and yes waxes will provid attqute protection from the sun, they just dont last as long.


p.s the oils in wax protect against bird bombs better then sealents

On my own cars there are times when I use just carnauba, other times a sealant, and other times a combo of both. I like trying different combos out for fun. I never leave one particular wax/sealant/combo on long enough to really test durability.

On customer cars I almost always use a sealant for longevity unless they request otherwise. I guess I could use Collinite, as that's been reported to be a very durable wax, but I don't have any.
 
i polish/sealent/wax (not all sealent can be mixed with wax!)
 
Yes you can use wax over a sealant but not the other way around, now most glazes will not work/bond under sealants due to the high oil content ;)
 
I've been using UPP with waxes over it and I have no complaints. However, I'm using collinite on my wife's car and I've been really impressed with it. I was thinking of trying to go with no sealant and using collinite with NB or souveran on top it. Just toying with the idea. Don't know if I would do it though. thinking...
 
Interesting, I thought a sealant was required underneath a layer of wax.

The only thing required under a sealant is a clean surface to better bond with the paint,oils in carnaubas won't let the sealant adhere to the paint causing the durability of the sealant to fall off early..
 
I have two daily drivers that use sealants most of the time and 4 weekend drivers that only use waxes only and never sealants. I like the looks of waxes better but they do take more time and care to keep them looking nice.

845 or 476S give give you adequate uv protection.
 
I like to mix it up but yes it will provied UV protection if your looking to just use a wax then you have one stong one right there it will give you the best duribility....
 
I think 845 is way underrated as far as waxes go. I put some on my wifes daily grocery getter it lasted so long I forgot when it was put on there. You can also put a little Aqua Wax 951 once aq month will keep it looking fresh. Just remember to keep both going on thin, real thin.
 
I tend to use more carnuaba since I have so much, I have toyed with sealants and like the results as well. You can do both sealant then top it with wax and get the best of both worlds.
 
I put two coats of wgps and 2 coats of collinite 476 on my pickup in late october.It is still beading nicely.:D Consider the fact that it has gone through a really brutal winter up north here!Currently the city is using a really corrosive liquid salt melter that if not washed off in a reasonable amount of time can cause rubber to melt:( A testimonial to the effectiveness of the combo.Check the pics in my folder.
 
I have sealants, but I have not yet used them. I am going to try them out though.
 
having a black car I usually stick with just a carb waxes. My wifes jeep is metallic red, so we are quiet pleased with how sealants make the flakes POP.
 
to date never had any fading or UV damage on any car, even those using "just" carnauba.
 
Hmm... 845 has decent uv protection, huh? I've been using upp for a sealant and on top of that I've got danase speed glaze (acryllic), several coats of NB and biweekly AW. However, I'm always thinking "I wonder how the UPP is doing under there?", "How do I tell if the UPP is still good?", "Should I put another coat of upp on?". This is always on my mind. It's kind of a hassle worrying about it. I was thinking that I could just put 845 on the paint then have fun with NB, souveran, AW or whatever and not have to worry about the bottom layer. After 6 months or so I could strip everything and start over?
Any thoughts on this?
