I'm new to doing it yourself and to having a vehicle that I want to better protect using good products and methods. I have Xpel paint protection film on the front of the car and some of the leading edges to hopefully extend the life of the paint in those areas.

I purchased some Wolfgang sealant based on recommendations here and other places. My problem is that the sealant built up on the edges of the PPF and now I have white lines along the edges of the PPF. I want to remove them but I don't want to damage the paint or the film. I'd also like to hand wash my car and apply sealant myself again in the future - but without creating white lines all over my black car.

Please help!

"Like removes Like"

-Going back over the build-up (white lines) with
some of the same Wolfgang Sealant, will help to
soften-up the residue, in order for it to be gently
removed. (Hint: Always wipe PPF using the:
"going away from the edges technique")

For any remaining residue, I use products
like Griot's Dried-On Wax Remover.
Griot's Garage Dried-On Wax Remover, remove dried wax, Griots Garage Wax Remover

Note:
I use XPel's Sealant on my XPel PPF.

Thank you for all the helpful tips!

IME, it's close to impossible to remove it 100% from CB seams once it's in there.

But, you can remove it 90%. The best way I have found is to get a decent MF towel wrapped around your finger with a little bit of mineral spirits on it. Then, gently rub the edge - focusing on the paint side.

Whatever you do, don't use stiff brushes, tooth picks, razors, etc... That will make it just worse.

The thing is, mineral spirits are VERY GOOD at dissolving conventional sealants and waxes. You only need a tiny bit on the towel. After, clean the area with IPA or Eraser.

The trick then is to never use ANY product that is not clear on the clear bra on near it's seams once it's clean.

I have the XPel sealant. It's OK - but not that great. I have found two product that are significantly better, easier to use, and will not chalk up the seems: Prima HydroMax and Woflgang Deep Gloss Liquid Seal.

Of course, any durable spray sealant like product will likely be fine. Something like Car Pro HydroFoam, Hydro2, or Permanon should also work well.

The best thing for PPF is a coating. Use your finger nail to remove the excess. It doesn't take much to remove what's already there.

After you clean off the residue, prevent the problem in the future: Tape off the edges of the PPF.
