I have 4 year old floor mats from my wife's Rav4. That lovely light gray color, and they have been sitting around in the garage for the winter since I put rubber ones in to keep the salt off the carpets. Well they had the usual discolored areas especially where your feet normally go, and the odd stain here and there. I used the 303 Fabric cleaner and it did a real good job on 75% of the carpet. Most used area though still has mild, and I mean mild brownish tinge to the fibers of the carpet. I used a professional strength, from a janitorial supply house, and it may have improved it by 25% or so but still there. I used warm water, soft bristle brush, and allowed the product to dwell for like 10 minutes. Powerwashed it off and used shop/vac to suck up excess water. Am I beating a dead horse here? Can all dirt and stains be removed or is it time for new mats? This is just a daily driver so I guess I could live with it. God knows my wife won't go for taking off shoes before entering her own car.

I found some Chem Dry carpet cleaner at the Home Depot that worked really well for some grease marks on my foot wells. It was dirt cheap and may be worth a try. Sometimes though, the fibers have permanently taken on the color of the offending substance.
