Are these rock chips?

Hi all,

I'm still not 100% savvy with all of the detailing terminology, and so would like to ask if the following are rock chips. I'm pretty sure this damage was caused by little rocks that fell from trucks I was driving behind and flew into my car's paint.

However, when I see posts discussing rock chips, usually the chip is white colored, rather then black as in my car.

Don't mind the the white spots, that's dust on my camera's lens which I cleaned after I uploaded the photo

I want to try Dr.Colorchip in order to fix these, however - Is this damage fixable with this method, or is the situation worse than the ordinary rock chip and needs repainting?

That looks like a bumper cover, and that's normal for a rock chip to expose the plastic substrate which is frequently black. When you have a rock chip on a metal surface, it usually exposes primer which is gray or white. The problem on the bumper covers, as it looks in your case, is the rock has also pushed up the plastic to some degree (like the left one in the lower picture), which means you will never have a smooth surface.

What I have done in a slightly different situation (curb scrape on bottom) is to sand the area down (including the plastic) for a smoother but larger repair area. I don't know how members are handling chips like yours; I usually leave the ones like that since they won't rust.

That's actually my rear bumper, I think those chips were due to some car kissing mine when parking (or trying to get out of the parking spot).
