Audi A4 Detail

Today I tackled an Audi A4 that the owner was about to trade because the paint was JACKED!! I spent a little over 6 hrs going back and forth with compound and a heavy cut pad. I got about 85-90% of it corrected with the exception of the really deep scratches. Guess she will be keeping it afterall :D

Wow Jace. That paint was really hammered. The car looks much better now. Looks like a proper black German sedan should look. Nice work buddy.

On your description an IPA wipe down after a wash with Dawn is unnecessary. You can go right from the wash, to clay, and then IPA wipe down. But even then it is not needed. The only time you need the wipe is after correction to check results.

Thank you. I have been using a mixture of Lake Country Hydro Tech, LC regular pads and 3D pads I get from down the street with a Chicago Machine DA. I am looking into a new machine because after a heavy cut session on speed 5.5-6, it kills pads ( burns out the center).

Below is also the way to mix up IPA if you arent doing so already. An alternate to the IPA method is to use CarPro Eraser. Much safer for the paint and has better lubrication properties than an IPA mixture.

Thanks Mike. I already have the solution mixed. That link did have more information though. I am using the IPA until I can get the CarPro Eraser. I am slowly building up my arsenal.

As for the pads, I have been using the pad brush as i go along, and trying less product like you said last time. I need to try that towel method though. Thanks for that.

I run into the same problem with my GG DA so I don't think it has anything to do with the polisher. I clean my pads on the fly after every other section using a brush and a towel, but when using the polisher at speed 5-6 they still build up heat. So I use a minimum of 4 pads per car in two sets of two. After a couple of sections clean the pad and set it aside and use the second pad for a couple of sections, clean it and set it aside while I go back to the first pad. Use those two for half the car then switch to the next set. This also forces you to check the heat on the backing plate which is usually much warmer than you think--especially in the center. Even on hard VW paint haven't had any problems with my pads.

Hey bro your Audi looks awesome, I also own the A4 (black metal flake)if you have a chance you should wax it one time with dodo purple haze, I tried many different waxes uncluding the whole black light system thing. Purple haze is my go to wax for the A4, you will be amazed.

Thank you. The A4 is actually my co-workers wifes car. I own a black car as well so I will give it a shot.

Thank you for that info. I just did a quick 2 step process on my personal car and tried the pad cleaning using the towel method Smack posted and it worked great. The backing plate did get hot but it didn't transfer through the pad like it usually does. I used 2 cut pads total on the A4 I will also try your method if it still builds up more heat than its supposed to.

Did a quick 2 step with SF4000 on one light cut polishing pad on speed 5.5 and the pad never got hot. So it was definitely my technique. Topped it with butter wet wax. Thanks for all the info. I love to learn. :D

I'm going to say the only people who drive black audi's are the ones who can afford to, if I don't feel like like driving the black one then ill drive my silver A8, weather plays a big part in making that choice. Black is a part time job that's for sure.

Thank you sir. I love the butter wet wax. I tried the Blacklight under the butter wet on the Audi to see if it gave it an extra pop, but there is really no need for it. It also takes damn near zero effort to remove.

Haha. I know what you mean. I have just learn't to deal with the dust build up on mine until I have a decent amount to time to remove dust/clean it correctly. It just looks so awesome when its clean though.
