Just got back from meeting my daughter at a car dealer to look at a used car. The car price seemed good until they got to the addons. They said every used car they sell goes through auto butler premier paint protection and the cost is $1400!!!. Needless to say my reaction was "### are you kidding me?". But you get it redone every six months for free!! Now I can understand a dealer trying to get you to buy addons, they are in business to make money. But to tell me its required on a $7500 used car with 100k miles is ridiculous. That dealership will not be getting my business now or in the future.

p.s. The new sierra I bought earlier this year had auto butler included at no charge. I wish I could have bought it before it had been done. Took me hours to get rid of the swirls their machine put on it. I will not be bringing it back every six months.

$1400 for swirls & scratches?!?

Sign me up!! :laughing::laughing::laughing:

And they’re going to say you’re the crazy one for refusing it.

I posted a bad review on google for them about an hour ago. My daughter just got a call that they are willing to take that off the cost now. Coincidence? I still would rather not deal with them but used cars are in short supply with covid affecting everything. Decisions-Decisions

Just remind them that every person they deal with is a not complete moron.

Play the game and offer them $500 less.

1000.00 less, I use to work for a car dealer , to do the special paint treatment took less then a hour. By any si02 product from Autogeek , clay , polish if needed and save a lot of money.

I had the same experience with a Cadillac dealer a few months ago. The fact that there was a serious scratch on the hood that they were agreeing to repaint the hood for led me to believe that there had been no paint protection done as they were claiming. They claimed it had already been done. They tried coming down on the price before I said. That’s a shame. It’ll cost a thousand dollars to get it off so I can put a real coating on it. They actually agreed but I found a much better deal elsewhere.

The OP rant is well worth it. Requiring it is a pretty manipulative move.

And a great way to lose business.

For those of us who know it's a hilariously overpriced sealant it's a scam. To the average shopper, I would HOPE they would see it as a greedy mark up to the price of a vehicle and walk away. The fact the dealership is still in business with this tactic is a testament to how gullible people are today.
