I've been researching drying aids to help prevent marrying when drying and add a layer of protection. Everyone is loves Meguiars M156, but I stumbled across Auto Magic Hydro Shine and its intended use is on wet vehicles. Has anyone used Hydro Shine? Or should I stick with the M156?

I'll do everything in my power to prevent you from getting married when you are drying!

So I'll suggest:
Stick with D156!!

Hahahahahahaha, thanks Bob. Auto correct strikes again!:props:

My vote would be D156. It's such a great product. I have used Auto Magic #49 and I think Megs is much better.

Matt, afraid I can't help ya' with getting married, not after over 37 years being married myself. (Sorry.... just couldn't help myself.)

But..... you should REALLY get a bottle of Duragloss Aquawax. It is as good as you'll get, and is incredibly slick! We keep 2 gallons of spray waxes on hand at all times, Megs 156 and Duragloss 951 (well it's 952 in the gallon size). Another Duragloss item you should grab is Fast Clean & Shine. It's great as a QD/waterless by itself, but mix it 75/25 with AW and it'll ramp up to something really special! :xyxthumbs:

I actually use AutoMagic Hydro Shine. It one of the only products from AutoMagic that I use. Along with XP Cool Blue for a water based tire and trim dressing. Hydro Shine works great with a plush micro. It drys great with no marring. And it beads water for up to 3 weeks. Meg's D 156 is great to. I have used both with great results.

+1 on the Duragloss fast clean & shine mixed with aquawax 3:1. Won't create buildup and makes the drying towel absolutely glide across the paint.

Or just use the duragloss rinseless wash that has aquawax already in it at the qd dilution it works very well

Haven't used Auto Magic but I just love Meg's D156

I use Meg's D156 (or ultimate quik wax) when I'm using Meg's or similar products and stick with DG Aquawax when I'm using Duragloss or Zaino sealants. Just ordered some Optimum Detailer to go with their line as well. So far, my favorite is DG Aquawax for ease of use and overall looks. It seems to be almost impossible to make it streak.

Can't say anything about Auto Magic, as I haven't used any of it, but I do like to stay within a family of products for the most part.

You can't prevent it, it's already done. We're all married to our car's paint.

Same here except 521 instead of 921.

X2 - Probably one of their best and most easiest to use products. I actually used nothing but Hydro Shine for protection on one of my company cars a while back and it kept it looking really nice. Here's the thread where I documented it:

The non marring results of how I wash cars.

In the above thread...

By answering thusly:

Good question. I've looked at the finish under almost every light imaginable and there's not a trace of mico-marring. You'd figure after this long a period of time, something would surface? Even the continuous use of an LSP won't hide that? I'm not about to marr up the finish with IA to see. Is there another way to disprove this outcome? Is a product like this with a high level of fillers a bad thing? What if this maintenence regiment could be continued for multiple years with nothing else added and still produce this level of results? It kinda goes against the Autopian principles in a way? :secret

As such:
•In the sentence that I highlighted in Red is the acronym IA.
-Does IA stand in place of: Isopropyl Alcohol?
-If so: Doesn't AM's HydroShine contain IPA?

TIA.

Even though I'm not a Chemist, it is my understanding that most products of this type do indeed contain small % of IPA. AM Hydro Shine is certainly no exception. But, from using this product, I'd have to say that there is a very small percentage used. Certainly not enough to offer any stripping power. Mostly likely there just to speed up the drying effect. What this product does have that is very obvious after use is a heavy Mineral Spirits & Petroleum Distillates odor. Regardless, the product is fantastic as a drying aid, gloss enhancer and surface protector.

Thanks for your reply.

•No wonder HydroShine has those odors...
-It has mineral spirits, Naptha, petroleum distillalates, IPA.

These ingredients will, no doubt, cause water to bead...
But how do they supply protection?

•So I'll stick by my original suggestion and say
that I'd rather use Meguiar's D156...
-It has none of the above ingredients.
