AUTOGEEK FOAM GUN REVIEW

Hello everyone. I thought I would type about my first ever use of any type of foam gun or foam cannon. I realize that the foam gun is all over FaceTube, YouBook, and YouTwitFace so it seems to be popular right now. I did a lot of looking around and noticed that you can get $15 knock off versions of this type of tool or that you can get a $60 version that is made to a higher standard and made with better materials. I bought the $60 quart version from AutoGeek with the AutoGeek logo on it.
I am not a professional so I just take care of a few family cars to help out my parents, my aunt, a cousin and our Nissan hatchback. Here is why I am interested in the foam gun. I like the idea of the device laying down a soapy layer on the car in the hopes that it will lose light dirt making the cleaning safer and faster. In reality what really happened was it helped me a a legally blind person in washing the car. I used it today on my parents 2008 Dodge Ram. I used a car wash soap that mom had so I would not have to open a new bottle of anything. I used two ounces of some Turtle Wax Max Power car wash in the foam gun and added water to the canister. I used the gun on hole three. I used a wash bucket filled with clean water and a grit guard to rinse the wash mitt with. Here is where the foam gun really helped me. I did a panel at a time by laying down a layer of soap and then spraying the wash mitt with soap. Due to the panel being white and the truck metallic burnt orang, it helped me to see where I had wiped and therefor no more missed spots. I also noticed that by feel the panel was much slicker than it normally is when I used wash soap in a bucket. I also noticed that the wash job went a lot faster. From start to dry took forty minutes. What did I not like about the foam gun? Two main issues really. Not a huge deal but it is a little annoying, yet I am sure I can come up with a solution to the issues. The foam gun will not stand up on its own when connected to the nose. This leads to problem two. When or if it falls over, it can or will hit the brass slider bar with the holes in it. This changes your soap rate. You can end up spraying just water it is falls in-between a hold. You can also end up spraying more or less soap that what you had it set for. This is not a make it or break it issue, but it is annoying because I have to check the foam gun to make sure the slider did not move. There is a simple solution to this so i will come up with something.
There was a forum member who sent me a gift card to the AutoGeek store which allowed me to buy a lot of nice stuff. I bought the $120 Meguirars professional bucket kit with a few other Meguiars Professional gallon products, sprayers, and that foam gun. I am very grateful and thankful for those who have come forth to help me gain experience, quality products, and to help allow me to give back to my family by doing something that I enjoy doing. I gained my love for classic cars and washing cars from my dad. Doing this cleaning today allowed me to think about him and how we use to enjoy cleaning his 1961 Ford Galaxie together. I miss my dad. Thank you to those who helped me enjoy this hobby and bring back memories. I realize that a foam gun is not a needed tool. For me however it helps me see more than I other wise could. I hope that buy purchasing a quality foam gun and by being a hobbies, it will last me many years.

Great review. Glad it helps you enjoy the hobby. I use mine every wash. Only difference is I still mix a bucket of soapy water to wash with.

Glad you like it, I have one and it’s one of my favorite detailing toys. I agree with you on the point that it tends to fall over if you set it down. I’ve never found a solution to that. The gun allows a one (rinse) bucket wash, which I prefer. Blasting a panel and hitting the mitt with a shot of foam means I don’t need to dip a mitt in a soap bucket, just the rinse bucket after every panel.

One note on soap, with the gun as opposed to pressure washer, I’ve not seen any real difference in using a soap like CG snow foam (which is marketed for foam cannon) vs a regular shampoo like reset or McKee’s SIO2. Both types seem to work equally well in foam gun.

If you want people to really read that, try breaking it up into bite size chunks. No way I'm attempting that unless it's information that I 100% need right now.

The foam gun is a lot of fun to use Lovey. The only drawback is that it uses a lot of soap. They recommend 6-8 ounces of soap per quart solution which to me seems like a lot. I use 4 oz of soap with 1/2 ounce of foam boost and that seems to work well. If you are not using a soap bucket it is a good idea to use multiple wash mitts even with a grit guard in the rinse bucket.
The hose nozzle provided with the foam gun has a quick disconnect so you can easily remove the canister and not worry about it tipping over when you set it down.

it's not for everyone, but i love the foam gun. i don't need a wash bucket when using it the way i do, only a rinse bucket. if you're only using it as a pre-soak, don't bother wasting your money and save up for a foam cannon to use in conjunction with the pressure washer....
