What's the go to product for Chevy Avalanche plastics. I'm looking for something with durability and easy to apply. I have Dlux on hand I'm just wondering what everybody is using.

For big plastic parts like found on Avalanches, etc I usually apply dlux soo carpro dlux is my vote

Products with more "permanency" (durability measured in years)...for Avalanches/Escalade EXTs:

1.) Gatorback
2.) ValuGard E.T.R. Kit III

DLux will work. Gtechniq C4 and Carmor Fade to New are similar products and should do well also. You will likely need more than one bottle of DLux to cover everything. I used about 45 ml. of C4 on the last one I did, including the bed covers.

Have you used the gatorback aerosol?

👍 thanks for the info I was thinking two bottles of Dlux should do it.

Yes.

Being in Texas...
I believe you'll need products like I mentioned,
for the durability you talked about in your OP.

Most members of the Chevy Avalanche Fan Club of North America forum recommend a product called Refinish Restorer. You can check it out in their forum or on the internet.

Cool thanks for the help. How long would it take to prep and apply the Gatorback. Couple hours?

Check out the new tire and trim sealant from blackfire. WETs is always nice as is black wow pro. If you are looking for something OTC give the turtle wax jet black black endura shine trim coat a shot. I have a write up in right now. Can't post it since I'm on my phone.

I have an avalanche and 3 years ago the trim was faded and did not look good at all. I put Tuff Shine trim coating/restorer, cant remember what they call it. It is still on there and looks like it should. I also use UTTG every 3 or 4 months.
For the bed covers I spray them with spray paint from rustoleum that is made for plastic, don't recall the name. If you go this route on the bed rails the gloss black did not look as good to me as the regular black.

Has anyone tried Detail Kings Trim Kote ?
Very curious about this product

I have both and have used both on my Rogue Plastic Trim. McKee's didn't last anywhere near as long as WETS. It strikes me as a watered down version of WETS.

Avalanche plastics are the worst. They turn grey/white and dry out. They are very thirsty. I always have to apply 3 coats of trim restorer. The trim restorer that I use on Avalanches is not available on Autogeek, I discovered it at the Mobile Tech Detailing convention at a booth. But I will tell you that you need a "resin" type trim restorer, not a silicone type.

I can tell you what will NOT work. Any "lotion" type trim restorer like Mother's Black to Black will not work until you have gotten the trim restored to black. Then the lotion style restorers will maintain the condition.

Just to comment....

Nothing lasts forever.

ONE TIME - I was asked to teach on class on exterior plastic restoreation at Mobile Tech Expo, it was a dud. No one cares about restoring faded black plastic trim, at least there's not enough interest in a WIDE cross section of detailers to ever do the class a second time.

I had 6 classes that year, it was the sixth class...

6: Renewing Exterior Trim - 5:30pm – 6:15pm Sawgrass Room
So many new cars, trucks and sports utility vehicles utilize plastic, rubber and vinyl trim to reduce both weight and costs when manufacturing new vehicles. The problem with exterior trim material like this is it fades, oxidizes and turns ugly gray with repeated exposure to outdoor environments, UV rays from direct sunlight, and the drying out effect from repeated car washing and inclement weather. In the past most dressings were topical and would easily wash off. Advances in technology has introduced a new selection of exterior trim dressings that last longer and look better for customer pleasing results.

When I have the right vehicle, I teach this I my detailing classes here at Autogeek and the Roadshow classes. BUT even after you restore faded plastic you MUST put the plastic on a regular maintenance or "re-apply" schedule because as I said above,

Nothing lasts forever...
