I have a baby boy on the way soon. It is our first kid and is a blessing. I am a tad concerned on how much wear having a baby will have on my car.

I have stained proofed my carpet (aerospace), have rubber winter mats and protected my leather seats (leatheriqu). The inerior of my car is black and the car is new.

My wifes car is old and has cloth seats. I have protected her interior as well. I would do the above automatically without a baby on the way.

Is there anything else i need to do? For some reason i envision the interior of my car being trashed, specifically the back seat. Im thinking of putting garbage bags down in the back, lol.

I know this sounds bad, but im a tad worried. My wife doesnt grasp the concept of keeping a car clean and treating it as a baby also. Im beyond anal when getting in and out of the car and very aware of not damaging the interior in any way. The exterior is a given.

Im also wondering if the base of the car seat will ruin the leather seat it is attached to?

I hope this post doesnt come off bad. I simply like to keep my things looking new:)

Another member here bought some terry towels that matched the interior color (black, in that case) and covered the back of the front seats, etc. I don't know how to find that thread, because that wasn't the topic of the thread.

thanks.. I will see if I can find it via keywords. not sure if that is possible though :) Hopefully someone else chimes in. I will look into that for now. I can definitely see the back of the front seats becoming worn.

LOL, it wasn't about them becoming worn, it was about them having milk and applesauce on them...or worse. If I remember it was a G35 or something like that, and the thread was about something else, but someone asked about the covering on the back of the seat, so the OP went into detail about it.

lol.. well that too. I already envisioned that disaster, not to mention the interior of the roof.. OH MYYYYYY..

I can tell you I coated all my cars carpet with 303 Fabric Gard before we had out boys. Always works well to protect spills.

Leatherique is fantastic but I don't think it will "protect" the leather as such.
You probably want to look into Optimum protectant plus or UIGP.

Also I would put something between the baby seat & the leather such as a towel or blanket. If you can somewhat match the color most people probably wouldn't even notice...

Oh & as mentioned by Killr, you probably want to treat the carpets & fabrics with 303 high-tech fabric guard not aerospace protectant...

Thanks!

I already did the 303 when I bought my car. So I'm good there. However, I will apply some more just to be safe. I will definitely buy optimum protectant plus or UIGP and the towel under the baby seat is a good idea. Thanks!!! Appreciate the input.

You found the thread. Thanks. Very interesting idea. Im debating buying some leather seat covers.

The baby car seat will ruin your back seat since the car seat has to be extremely tight. I have a seat saver from babys r us underneath it but it doesn't save it 100%. It's more of an issue with toddler seats than infants. If it makes you feel any better your new car will probably never know what it's like to not have a car seat in it

Wonderful lol.. I wasnt aware they sold those. I guess its better than nothing. Time to make sure we use the wifes car more often than not :)

I have those "seat savers" in my cars and they work wonders. The ones I have are made by "LionHeart", I beleive. They have small ridges on the edges to catch small spills. The main reason we got them is because of the damage the baby carrier/ car seat will do when cranking down in the "Latch" system to keep the little ones in place.

Congratulations! My wife and I had our first child 16 months ago and she's baking another one as we speak. I was worried about my cars too since they are both new and have leather.

What you have to do Is get a large burlap sack with some breather holes OR if you love your child like I do you will get some Seat Savers made by Prince Lionheart.

Babies are not too hard on seats. I think it's when you have 2-4 year olds the problems begin. Also, don't let you kids eat or drink in the car unless you are on a long ride. Good luck and God bless.

Just to follow up.....in no way do I condone putting babies in large burlap sacks. That is where the wife goes.

Keep this in mine , nobody never eats in the car , no kid and no adult.

A towel or seatguard is a must. My sister has a large cover in the back seat for a dog, google "kurgo wander hammock". I imagine that there is something similar out there that could be used with a carseat.

If you're putting the carseat in the rear-center and you have a center armrest, be sure that it is secured, don't want that falling on baby durring a sudden stop.

Cheerios and water are it for snacks. And mostly relax. Once baby comes your focus will shift. Who cares if the car is spotless at resale? Is all that agony worth an extra $500? Your car will probably still look cleaner than 99.9999% of the cars out there.
