This morning I was headed to my first client when bam! My 2005 chevrolet express 3500 died. My gas gauge said I had a little over 1/4 tank of gas. It wouldn't hit a lick. I jumped out, poured my 2.5 gallon gas can that I use for my small equipment in the tank and it fired up. I went on to my first stop (6 clean ups) and called my buddy/mechanic and we agreed my fuel sending unit had went bad. I called up my local chevrolet stealership and had them set aside a sending unit and fuel pump $550.00 bucks! At 2 pm we started to try to remove the fuel tank at my mechanics shop and the 2 bolts that hold the fuel tank straps to the frame would not budge. They were stripped into the frame rail. A manufacturing defect that was horrendous. Our 2 options were to cut the metal straps that secure the tank and order new ones (3 day shipping time) or cut a hole in the floor and be back to work tomorrow. As you can see I will be back at it tomorrow AM with a new GM fuel system! Im the MAN

Damn that's a major PIA. One of my biggest fear is my work car breaking down. Immediately halts all income and work. Some cars are such a PIA. Good luck !

You should of used a torch. Works wonders on stripped gas tanks.

I used welding blankets during the cut out and the re welding to ensure no sparks came into contact with fuel. The way the bolts were stripped a torch wouldn't have done any good.
