Hello everyone! As the title says am looking for measurements of the stud that is sticking out of the backing plate. Particularly the height and width (diameter).
I know the pitch of thread is 5/16" which the PC and most DA use.
I am not looking for a backing plate btw. I just want the specs on the stud which I couldn't find anywhere.

Anyone has this info available?

Thanks in advance!

Brook.

It's a 5/16"-8 UNC threaded stud.
Not sure on the length off the top of my head, and I don't have one in front of me to measure. I'm sure somebody else can measure the stud length for you.

It's 5/16" coarse thread.

Not sure what else you could "need" to know in order to attach one to a tool and buff out a car.

The length is arbitrary because ANY company manufacturing a backing plate has already done their homework and figured out how long the stud needs to be in order to attach to the spindle for acceptable performance.

:)

Mike, I'm thinking it is a coarse thread too, but I was just looking at the buffdaddy site, and according to his site, it's a 5/16-24 thread......

If his site is correct, that would be a fine thread, and we'd be wrong...

I'm not with my detailing supplies, so I can't check for sure.

Thank you for your input Mike!

I have little project i am working and thats why i needed the exact or close approximate height of the stud.
I hope to share it here if it ia a success.
Can you help me out?

I have found both fine and course threads from different sources now. 5/16" 18 and 5/16" 24.

Either or, it can't be both. Sorry I'm not home so I can't measure the length for you.

That's probably correct, Kevin is always very accurate I his writing. Not that I'm not but sometimes I simply type faster than I think.

Just walked out to the garage and looked at the stud on an LC DA Backing Plate and it is in fact fine thread.

Not sure what you're working on but if it's going to be a retail product the correct procedure to market it on this forum would be to first get it into the AG store and that process is to send your info to

[email protected]

The information is then routed to the appropriate department and if there is any interest that department will contact you.

Thanks for your help Mike.

It is nothing major just a home experiment hopefully to make buffing easier, hopefully :)

Non the less i will make sure to follow your advice. I appreciate it.

My work will be complete with additional measurements from you guys,
Height and Thickness/diameter.
that would be awesome :)

It's 5/16-24 Thread and about 7/16" long.
That's measured without the compression washer in place.

I measured both a meguiars and a Lake Country backer, both were the same length.
