Anybody going next week? I'm flying out to see my parents and plan on going at least one day, and hopefully twice.

I'd be in trouble if I went there lol!

I'll be catching it on TV, sucks that its always on during the playoffs though. Really wanna see what Ron Pratt is going to pay for that L-88 race car.

Will be flying out Sunday the 12 th and staying at the Embassy Suites Phoenix - Scottsdale 4415 E. Paradise Village Pkwy South, Phoenix, Arizona, 85032, till the 18 th. Will try that place out Flash. Also looking for other good steak or Italian restaurants that aren't too fancy or chain deals. If anyone is in that area feel free to drop by or give me a call at 317-513-4678.

My wife would divorce me if I came home with another car. lol I am going with my Dad, reminds us of the old days. Just fun to go look and see the crazy $$$ stuff brings.

I'm leaving on Thursday morning. We've been going out there since 2005. Always a great time. Really looking forward to 70+ degree weather since we just had that artic blast this week.

My wife took me to the one in Palm Beach last year as one of our surprise dates, we both REALLY enjoyed it. I love my wife.

You guys have fun! What a KILLER way to spend the week. :D

The show starts today actually, (12th) and winds down next Sunday, a full EIGHT DAYS this year. WOW would that be awesome! Heck that's long enough to buy a car, drive it for a couple of days, then run it back through the auction to buy more at the end of the week.

They are starting TV broadcasting Tuesday and I'll DVR all of it. The wife can't complain anymore about missing TV scheduling either. I mean we had two 2-tuner DVR's but now we have those two (4 tuners) and a 5-tuner. By George if we can't record stuff on 9 tuners then it doesn't freaking NEED recording!

In her defense however, she watches it all with me. Never missed any broadcasts since SPEED started doing it years ago. Doesn't hurt that she works at a auto auction, (been there 30+ years). We'll even text one another with the Fantasy Bids if one of us isn't here live when they come on.

I keep telling her to surprise me with tickets to Scottsdale, but she keeps saying TV is the best seat in the house. Maybe you guys need to remind her?

I'll have to catch on tv now, slipped and fell in my driveway and broke my wrist on Saturday

OUCH!!! Dude that sucks, bigtime!

I'm watching it now. :righton:

You have to look around for it though. Here, Eastern Time; It ran from 7:00 till 9:00 on Fox Sports 2, then moved to Fox Business News till 9:00 till 11:00. It's doing that through Thursday.
Then on Friday it'll be on Fox Sports 1 2:00 to 9:00 then Fox Business News 9:00 to 12:00.
Saturday it'll be on the Local FOX station 3:00 till 5:00 then National Geographic Channel (of all freaking places) 5:00 till 12:00.
Finally on Sunday, it's 2:00 to 5:00 on Fox Sports 2 then 5:00 till 7:00 on Fox Sports 1.

Talk about CONFUSING!

But I assure you, I will not miss ONE MINUTE! :D

Our Mothers RTR Spec 3 Mustang crossed the block at 10pm Eastern last night.

We donated the car, with 100% of the proceeds ($110,000) going to charity - the TGEN Foundation, which funds colon cancer research. The Barrett Jackson folks founded it since colon cancer hit several members of the families.

There's more info on our FB page ( www.facebook.com/mothersusa )

One of Linda Vaughn's Hurst/Olds will be auctioned later this week for the same charity.

Hey Paul or Cougar Guy, could you take some pics of unique and rare rides for the group, thanks! BTW Paul we've got a Chicagoland detail day in the works, would love to have you come on out again.

Congrats on the first 6 figure charity car of the event Forrest! :dblthumb2:
Looked like an award winning day one in Scottsdale Forrest. Never in the history of Barrett-Jackson has opening day brought that kind of money! Only one other car brought six figures, but a LOT of them brought 50K+. The kicker being they are bidding for 6 days straight this year. :) I remember when it was a 3 day, then a 4 day auction, not that long ago.

Hope all the money didn't leave the room early. ;) Then again, looking at today's docket there are a LOT more "entry level" vehicles. Looks like 1500 or so "items" will cross the main block this year. Talk about fun! :props:

Rocking it and knocking it six days straight, get your big ol' glass of iced tea, kick back and kick the kids outta' the way. ;)

Habbda-habbda-whaddya-habbda-whaddya-SOLD!

Thanks for doing the research! I was all over the the place on the DVR last night. Saturday (the biggest day) is what had me confused. Now I know, Nat Geo, of course!

Forrest@Mothers, since you guys donated a charity car maybe you can answer a couple questions for me:

1. Is it true that all the charity cars might be sold on one day in the future?

2. Do the charity cars and their sale price compromise the price of other "like" cars?

3. We're trying to plan a Chicagoland Detail Day sometime in April at a real nice shop, would you guys be able to send us some samples and/or a gift pack like you did last time?

Thank you.

I doubt all the charity cars will all be sold on 1 day - spreading them out keeps the hype and interest flowing. It also makes for better TV, which seems to be important.

Charity cars usually (almost always) sell for more than their value. While I'm not an accountant, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, I believe there is a tax deduction available for the difference between the price paid and the actual value of the vehicle. I don't think the sale of charity cars lifts other, similar vehicles, because the purchasers are vastly different. While the hype of TV, the camera in your face, and the runner in front of you gesticulating wildly MAY make you pay more for a car than you would otherwise, generally cars get sold for what they're worth.

As for your April Detail Day, shoot me info on when and where, and I'll be glad to send some products in.

Bummer...I don't get Fox Sports 2 or the Fox Business channel on my cable package.

I also notice that the Mecum auction next week switched. They first said it would move from Velocity to the NBC sports channel, but the posted schedule says much of it will be on the Esquire channel, which I also don't get (never even heard of it).

Yep, Nat Geo.... OF COURSE!

Boy is there money in the house!

FBN isn't exactly on the top of my list either! Nat Geo, YES that one I watch! ;) But Esquire Channel? Seriously? Bet I have it though. :dunno: I know for $200 a month with DirecTV there isn't much I don't have! (Of course none of that is NFL, NBA, NHL, NLB and such.)

To address "charity vehicles" compromising other 'like' vehicles. That'd be like saying does the price of a Cessna effect the pricing of a Ski Boat. One just has nothing to do with another.

They don't advertise it these days like they used to but Forrest addressed the one stipulation that they used to make clear up front. Being; the tax deduction isn't for the full amount, say $100,000 when the vehicle could be bought for $50,000. Not as straight forward as that BY FAR, but all isn't there in the closing hammer price. ;)

Tons of variables though with all the tax laws involved. I shudder to think how they come up with a value on a "one of one" experimental, factory donated, not for sale to the public type of thing. :dunno: Although....... buying serial number 1 of the new diddle fang, dang bang super model plastiglass sports coupe that has a dealer cost of $62,000 and an MSRP of $70,000 that sells for $300,000 with a charity name attached IS NOT a $300,000 tax deduction! If the manufacturer has sold it to a dealer, then the dealer donates it, then the charity sells it, they'll ALL have a "basis" of one price or another attached to it (as in what they would have bought it for/sold it for/valued it at). Too much paperwork! ;)
