Hello fellow Geeks! I am pretty new to the forums, mostly a lurker here and there... I figured it was time for me to contribute with a little detail I did on a customers pick-up. I'd like to hear what you all think and what I can improve on. here we go...

First off, this truck is in great mechanical condition and has been very well kept in that department. On the other hand, the paint, along with the interior, engine etc etc, are in very poor condition. You name it, this paint had it. The paint was littered with water spots, swirls, RIDS, bird droppings etched into the paint, marring, and oxidation. Let's just say I had my work cut out for me!
The truck has never been waxed/protected in any way. Other than touchless car washes, it has recieved more than it's fair share of improper washes using damaging wash tools. Along with improper wash techniques, the sun has left quite a bit of damage of its own! After educating the owner on proper car care, we decided to not only get the imperfections out of the paint and bring back some shine, but to go all out and get this truck looking the way it should inside and out.
The goal was to remove ~85% of the imperfections safely and bring back the shine on this paint. Being that this vehicle is daily driven, a show-car shine is not necessary nor is it recommended. We went with a synthetic paint sealant for protection and durability through the winter months ahead.
I originally had planned a 2-step paint correction and interior shampoo in addition to the rest of the work we discussed, but unfortunately the owner unexpectedly needed the vehicle back due to family issues. I ended up completing a 1-step on the paint and everything but an interior shampoo. I have many pictures documenting the condition and work done on this vehicle, unfortunately with the amount of space I am given I will have to keep things short and sweet.
Here are the results...

Since the detail on this vehicle was cut short I was only able to snap a few finished photos before the sun disappeared. I also apologize for the low quality pictures.

A few days after this detail was completed the owner called me and said the swirls are coming back:

Me: Did you or anyone else wash the truck?
Him: No, It just got really dirty so I used one of those "California dusters" all over the truck to get the dirt off.
Me: :bash:

Sorry for reserving so many posts... I am unsure as to how much text/pics we are allowed to put into a single post. If someone can confirm how much is allowed it would be greatly appreciated!

Wow!! Great job! Nothing better than a clean ranger! I love shining mine up:D

And it sucks that he used the duster on it after all that hard work :(

Dude you did an outstanding job!:dblthumb2:

Excellent work and I love watching a good Ford truck get all spiffied up! Also as for the owner, some people just get stuck in their ways of doing things, and don't think about it.. Us detailers gotta have our clients start fresh, and learn the do's and don'ts of car care. lol Great job once again, and happy detailing! This was one of the nicer write-up's I've read on here.:dblthumb2:

P.S. I wish you could have gotten some interior after shots =/ I'm sure it was a pretty drastic turnaround!

You did an amazing job on a neglected NM sun beaten truck! I'm not a detailer, (just a car geek) and it hurts my feelings that it was so neglected.

Just think of how it'd been to do a full multi-step on it. Although the owner probably wouldn't even begin to appreciate it. Perhaps some quality time with him and an explaination of how *not* to take care of it.

Amazing work! Such a shame to hear about what the owner did though.

+1 on what products you used.

Nice write up and nice job, I feel your pain I detailed a Fire apparatus all the swirls gone, came in following shift to find they used a tire brush on the paint, my hours of work down the drain. This was after I told each shift how to properly wash the apparatus.

Great job on the truck. It turned out amazing.

Truck looked amazing after the detail.

Also would like to know what products you used in the engine compartment.

Awesome job!! Was this a farm truck??
ps am I the only one that noticed the high thickness readings?? 300-400 microns is really thick!
