Just curious here how you autogeekers bed in your new brake pads. I'm about to install new Akebono ceramic pads on my bimmer to reduce the dust and keep the wheels looking cleaner longer. Last time I used the zeckhausen brake pad bedding method outlined here: http://www.zeckhausen.com/bedding_in_brakes.htm

While it was effective, in my area I had to do this at 1am on a light traffic highway which was not really as light as I expected at that time. Just want to know what other bedding procedures reach the same goals effectively. I will not be installing rotors as they are still good.

Thanks!

The instructions you linked are pretty much the same procedure I use. Like you I end up having to do this late night to very early morning. I remember the last time hoping that I didn't attract the attention of any cops :) It's hard to do since a vehicle making these maneuvers easily attracts attention.

Yup! A cop would not understand it unless they know of the procedure. I can't imagine having to explain it to one who is clueless:D Other drivers on the road probably think drunk driver going crazy behind the wheels.

I have a great rural-like road about 2 minutes from my house; 6+ miles with no traffic lights and a speed limit of 55. It makes doing things like this very easy :)

Or perhaps even an invite for Road Rage participation!! :dblthumb2:

What if a cop does know of the brake bedding procedure?
(not all of the uniformed are uninformed)

Does that mean you should, or should not, soon be having
an explanation of Traffic Court's procedure(s)?

I wonder if the brake bedding procedure would have to be performed again...
if a vehicle sits too long in an impound lot?

I haven't read the article yet but the way i break-in new brake pads goes as follows. Driving on flat even road at ~50MPH, i hit the brakes with as much force as possible without locking brakes or engaging ABS, by the time i get to ~5MPH i let off. Do not allow the vehicle to come to a full stop. I continue driving to allow the brakes to cool. Repeat 8 times. Your brakes will be fully bedded in. During this procedure do not remain at a stop while brakes are hot with brake pedal depressed as this will warp the rotors.

I run ceramic Stop Tech pads and they dust like crazy. I also found other ceramics pads to dust considerably more as well.

About the same as the zeckhausen procedure only it mentions 60mph. Here it is:

Only ceramics I've run are akebono and I was happy with then on my former e39 bimmer. Dusted much less.

I bed mine on a back country road, and do it every time with new pads.
