So ive been out of the loop for a couple years. Got sucked into a job that took all my time. Now that I have free time again I'm getting back into the detailing thing.

So here's where it gets fun. I literally have no chemicals left over. I don't really know what the new top dogs are anymore. So if you had to build from scratch what would you buy.

Welcome back to the addiction! Sorry to hear that detailing anonymous didn't help you. It didn't work for me either. LOL. Jokes aside tho, what's your budget?

No budget. But I don't like boutique products really. I just want good affordable products that work.

Is megs 105/205 still king? Or has optimum compound and polish caught up?

What about BFWD? still one of the best sealants?

The Optimum polishes are really nice, and they just released new versions of the Hyper (sprayable) polishes--not sure if they are available yet here. But more to your question Meg's has M100 and M101 and there is Menzerna FG400.

Yes, but coatings have become the rage now. Everything from Opti-Coat 2.0 to GTechniq, CQuartz, and the spray coatings from Pinnacle, Detailer's, Duragloss, and soon from Sonus. There are also a lot more WOWA sealants than there used to be, Wolfgang and Blackfire both have one.

Hey Ben, welcome back!

Autogeek's product lineup has exploded over the past couple of years. Autogeek now carries the entire Chemical Guys line, Sonas, Wolf's Chemicals, Auto Finesse, Bouncer's Wax

and nearly every other product I can think of.

Quality lines that won't empty your wallet with outstanding performance

  • Chemical Guy's
  • BlackFire
  • Duragloss
  • Detailer's Pro Series
  • Meguiar's
  • Mother's
  • Poorboy's World

Wolfgang products are now "Top Dog" IMO

They're Uber compound is second to none, it finishes now really well.

Hi Ben...

and you see an old pal of yours..."

Glad to see you again!! :xyxthumbs:

For myself, yes. I will always have these products in my staple.

Paint coatings, lots of them now! I prefer DG and DP and as far as polishes go M101 is awesome! Now for pads check out the new LC foam/wool flat purple for extreme duty and their blue Cyan and tangerine foam pads. Even Mother's rubbing compound is an awesome product not getting a lot of pub, check em' out!

Welcome back home!

What will you be working on, Ben? The product offerings, like Bobby said, have exploded and that's a beautiful thing. If i hit the reset button after a hiatus i would have found Iron X, Eraser, Nanoskin claying "towels" etc. Not to memtion a whole bunch of pads including MF cutting. And machines? Holy moly...almost too many that are fantastic although you probably already have those that work for you.

I am primarily a Meg's and Menzerna user and find a combination of those products do every customer i get from Honda soft to Audi diamond concrete clears!

Well, I own a carpet cleaning business. So I am going to be adding detailing services for the summer. I'm kinda leaning towards the megs detailer line. And maybe some mothers pro line.

Can't go wrong with megs detailer line. Megs APC and D151 are 2 of my must have products. Hyper dressing and hyper wash are also very good.

Anyone tried the mothers pro APC? I can't seem to find my old trusty megs orange APC.

I can't seem to find my old trusty megs orange APC.

I think it's only available in 5 gal size now. There was some rumor of a replacement, but I don't think that's materialized yet. If you are using it for carpet (which I presume you aren't since carpets are your business), there is a new stain system in the detailer line, D106 and D116.

I just use it for interior plastics and such. I use actual carpet chems for carpet. I think I'm going to give the mothers APC a shot

I have never been much of a mothers fan but have had very good luck with menzerna, and wolfgang. I buy whichever is cheaper of the two when I need it. I still buy some megs chemicals by the gal but am not a fan of megs 105. It will do the job but I am not a fan. I do however like 205. You mentioned bfwd and that is still one of my favorites. I have not gotten caught up in the hysteria of the coatings yet. I went through what you are about 4 years ago and switched to a flex 3401 from a roatary for 90 percent of my work. That was huge in itself.

What carpet chemical are you using that you like better than megs apc plus? When I run out I will need a replacement as well.

I get all my carpet chems from Cobb carpet. In most situations I prespray with their powermax prespray. Has oxidizers, citrus and other various surfactants. PH of 10. If there are a lot of yellow or tannin stains I'll boost it with a dedicated oxidizer like their powder brightener. If its god red stains I use a reducer and a steamer.
