Well a lot has happened since the last time I posted on here. I lost my aunt last year to cancer. She was the last family member I had that I was really close to as far as living with and raising me since my mom has MS. With her passing I took possession of a household worth of furniture and stuff. Among the things I've found and plan on keeping are my grandfather's dog tag from 1944 and a "V" nickel from 1903.
I got divorced earlier this year. No bitterness involved. My ex went through a traumatic death in her side of the family and I guess it triggered something mentally where she realized she was gay. I hold no ill will towards her and am still very much connected to her and her family. She has someone she's in a relationship with. I myself am in a relationship with someone in a different state. My girlfriend has a two year old son.
I didn't do much in the way of on the side detailing due to the divorce and dealing with my aunt's passing. I had a full time job with a dealership washing semis that I was fired from on Monday. Reason: they didn't like me. They in all honestly didn't like night shift (which is what I was) in general. It seemed like no matter what we did it was never good enough. There were several times where I'd be washing trucks by myself. It was also an environment where the day shift workers got away with murder. There would be Saturdays where they would do nothing. Literally nothing for a 5 hour shift. We'd be working our butts off while they'd be sitting on theirs. They'd do the same thing during the week too. They would purposefully not get work done so they'd have stuff to do the next day. I never felt respected or accepted there either. Always felt like an outcast.
What's the plan for the future? Well for starters I plan on selling what I can to downsize and have money. Within the next month or so I plan on moving to Illinois to be closer to my girlfriend and her son. Which brings me to these questions. Has anyone ever started over as a detailer in a different state? If so what kind of tips would you give as far as establishing yourself in a different state? I know the market will already have people there already established so I know it'll be an uphill battle for me.
