Hey Guys,
It seems the threaded spindle on my 5" Lake Country backing plate has bent slightly. Only reason I could think of is it got mashed in my checked bag (just flew home on leave). Under light to medium pressure the pad wants to "bounce" along the surface (not literally lift off the paint, just a noticeable unnatural *bump-bump-bump* as the pad is spinning on speeds 4.5-6). I've ordered a new backing plate but just for my own awareness I had a couple questions:
- Will use of this backing plate cause premature wear on the machine? On the pads?
- Will the off-cambered movement of the pad cause any damage to the paint surface?
- I know the PC7424XP isn't the most powerful, so will this reduce efficiency of the machine?
Again, the backing plate is en route, just wondering if I should cease all polishing until the new one arrives. Thanks as always guys...
