Usually I use megs apc plus as a prespray then scrub with a brush before I run the extractor over with plain water in the machine. Works well but I was interested if anyone else has a "miracle" shampoo that works on nasty carpets??

Not a whole lot of talk on here about carpet soaps!

If you want to prolong the life of your extractor, use a soap that's non-foaming.
I use:
autogeek_2155_99823951

Carpet Extractor cleaner, carpet extractor solution, carpet cleaner

Or you can simply use white vinagar as a defoamer .99 cents a gallon.

That is true you can use white vinegar as a defoamer, just add salt and a laundry soap or dishwashing liquid to the dirty tank too. I picked up the Betco locally for a good price, plus i needed some 0000 steel wool pads, just gives me more of a piece of mind using one ounce in the dirty tank. Plus, I use white vinegar and water to clean my extractor. Also, white vinegar gives a nice condition to microfiber towels when needed (just add to the rinse cycle). :props:

folex is good stuff. lowes has it for around $15 a gallon. i spray it on, scrub, then go over it w my extractor with just plain water.

I use either the DP or Folex for presoak/preclean and then just use the Bissel cleaning solution in the water of my imitation extractor. Works well for me.

Zep Citrus cleans great, but it foams up pretty bad.

Which Zep are you referring to?

With any carpet cleaning soap and extractor combo, you need a defoamer. A defoamer can be purchased at your local janitorial supply store. I have a gallon of a defoamer by Betco. Im the MAN

What is up with people following their posts with I'm through MAN? Makes me think you are the complete opposite!

Whatever their carpet cleaner is? I think its Zep Carpet cleaner. Folex looks good, does it come in 1 gallon?

I have not tried Zep carpet. Folex does come in gallons.

What about using Folex in your machine? I use some in my rug doctor, and I also use it as a pre treatment. It works great...

I've used just about every carpet shampoo out there over the years. Because of this forum, I tried Folex and like it very much for my spot cleaning (and yes, it's available in gallon size). Recently, (also because of this forum) I've used several Zep products. I'm VERY impressed with their odor eliminator and their carpet shampoo. Here it's only $1.98 for a 32oz bottle of the odor eliminator vs. $3.99 and up for Lysol, Febreze, etc and IMO, the smell is better and lasts much longer. Now for the carpet shampoo, I think there are 3 types. I bought the red gallon..high traffic I think. Foams up a little, but not horrible. I must say it got my carpets (in my home) much brighter than any other carpet shampoo I've used. Once it FINALLY stops raining here, I can't wait to shampoo the carpets in my truck! I'm now a huge fan of Zep products!!!

Awesome! Ill be sure to buy some next time im at home depot. Have you tried the zep sprayers at Home Depot by any chance? Are they any good? A bit cheaper than the spray master ones. Red gallon you said right? If I remember their carpet cleaner was blue

No, I haven't tried the Zep sprayers yet. I'm hoping to soon.

Yep, Zep High Traffic Carpet Cleaner is in the red gallon. The blue gallon is their Premium Carpet Cleaner I think. There's one other kind too, but I can't remember what "type" it was. I used the High Traffic cleaner because it was about $4 cheaper per gallon and I had a bit of carpeting to do in my home.
