Hey guys. Ive started detailing cars about 11 months ago. Ive been using products from a company called Auto Magic. I want to stock up on some supplies but want to know what you guys think about these companies.

Auto Magic
Car Candy
Meguairs
Chemical Guys

I will tell you one thing, I could supply my whole operation from Meguiar`s only if I absolutely had to. Absolutely great products. I use many Meguiar`s products daily.

I like some stuff from Chemical Guys. They seem to be a love/hate company due to their marketing and large selection of products per category.

Auto Magic is very popular in reconditioning shops. I have personally never used any.

Never heard of Car Candy.

The nice way of saying they are not the best choice for high-end work?

They are fine for general cleaners (glass, APC, non-acid wheel cleaner, etc.) But their compounds, polishes and waxes/sealants are generally not at the same quality level that you will find available from AG. Although, someone recently did a blind poll on the sister site and I believe the Malco wax was actually well received, when people didn't know what they were looking at.

You've probably got to let us in on what your goal is--do you do this for a living, have your own company, detail on the side, just work on your cars, what?

I've worked in the auto press industry for almost 17 years now. Been a member of the Motor Press Guild for many of those years. Managed teams who have data-mined, photographed and tested around 4000 vehicles in the time. Any car you can think of, I've covered it from a media and journalistic point of view. Auto Magic was a supplier for us to prep all of these vehicles for photography and we used their full line. The stuff isn't bad and its fairly cost effective when you're doing volume like this. That being said, almost every you'll find on AG is better a better alternative.

There are probably as many opinions as there are products. Here's mine.

In terms of Compounds and Polishes, I have used a large number of them and continue to go back to Meguiars Products. Easy on, Easy off and they do the job they are intended perfectly for me. On my Daily Driver I top of the polish the 4500 listed below.

  • Meguiars Foam Cut Compound
  • Meguiars Ultimate Compound
  • Meguiars Ultimate Polish
  • Menzerna Super Finish Polish 4500

For Sealants and Detail Sprays I really like Menzerma and BLACKFire Products. IMO they are among the best for black Euro Paints.
  • Menzerna Power Lock Polymer Sealant
  • BLACKFIRE BlackICE Hybrid Montan Sealant
  • BLACKFIRE Crystal Seal Paint sealant

Detail Spray wise, I've switched over to BLACKFIRE Wet Diamond Polymer detail Spray. I really Like the Meguiar's Gold Class Premium Quik Detailer too but the BLACKFIRE product is noticeably better IMO. I use the remainder of Megs I have on our minivan just to use it up.
