Hi all,

I've got an '07 Civic Si which has a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Unfortunately I haven't really taken care of it that much but I'd like to see if I can clean it up a bit. I'll be starting with some warm water and soap solution for the first major cleaning but I'd like to find some leather cleaner (not conditioner) to keep it looking nice every week.

So far I've been looking at Wolfgang Leather Care Cleaner, Leather Master Car Interior Strong Leather Cleaner, and Four Star Leather Cleaner Gel. I'm just wondering what would be the best to use since I won't be using any conditioner on the leather since that tends to leave it slippery or covered in residue which I'd rather not get all over my hands.

If anyone knows of a conditioner though that wouldn't get all over my hands though please feel free to recommend something!

My personal favorite is still what Lexus recommends for their leather: Woolite diluted 10:1. I use it at 16:1 because I felt the 10:1 was a little too soapy. Works great and cost is minimal.

Edited to Add: If you want a decent leather conditioner that's not slippery, I use the Lexus one. It's made by the company that makes the leather for them. Apply sparingly and buff. It does not leave a slimy mess. Of course, I think Meg's would work just as well.

I use the Wolfgang leather cleaner and conditioner on mine. I love these two products because it buffs down to a nice matte finish. No residue or product coming off from the steering wheel or other panels. Its very durable too....lasts a long time.

I use leather masters on mine, not slippery after a wipe down.

I use Optimum Power Clean at 3:1.
Before that I used APC+ @ ???:1 (too strong I am sure, but luckily no harm was done).

Just put a pile of rags under the steering wheel, spray carefully and liberally, and be amazed at the gunk that comes off.

Leather Master Soft Cleaner followed by Leather Mastesr Protection Cream both water based and leaves no sticky or oily feeling. It's expensive for small bottles but they are good.

For cleaner I really like the Ultima Interior Shampoo gel. I give it a good clean with this then wipe it with a wet cloth. It's amazing how much dirt can come out of it.

I don't condition the steering wheel, just the Ultima, if used throughly gives the feeling of a brand new wheel.

I don't use the shampoo gel on seat leather- leatherique for that.

Awesome stuff

Saturate a cloth with this solution then wipe the steering wheel until clean...a very simple solution....:props:

I've also used Meguiar's all purpose cleaner at an 8:1 dilution ratio without harm.....

I'm really interested in trying the all-in-one Pinnacle Leather Cleaner & Conditioner but I'd like to try it first before I spend $25 on it. I can't seem to find a sample size on AG. I'm guessing you can't get this as a sample?

I have used Four Star Leather Cleaner. It is a soap and does not like the steering wheel sticky when using it and you can wipe it down with water to remove the cleaner.

Some APC's (excluding Optimum Power Clean) seem to give leather (real or fake) tacky when using it.

We are just talking steering wheel only right?

Try M-40. Yea, it is for vinyl, but for ONLY the steering wheel, it both cleans and leaves a nice finish that doesn't end up on your hands.

My $.02...

I used the two Leatherique products on my BMW leather steering wheel last fall. It left the wheel clean and non-slick. For 10-year old leather, pretty good deal.

Other leather cleaner/conditioners like the Megs Gold Class left the wheel slightly slick as I remember, so I stopped using it years ago.

Good luck.
